Those of you in bands how do you add some "flash' around the kit. I was thinking some simple par 38s and an ol chaser, any ideas out there?

I use 2 colorstrip mini's as up lighting around our drummer.

A couple of inexpensive LED pars will give you a world of colors and effects.

any suggestions? Id be ok with some 1st generation ones, im looking to keep it as inexpensive as possible, but light up his kits and provide mpve on stage. I was thinking LED pars. but any suggestions on which ones, so i can stalk used ones on Ebay. I was thinking maybe a ADj vertigo or something, but thats too busy, i want some simple sound active movement, and if LED even better! Our drummer has like 13 diffrent kits, all with great sparkle or in depth finishes, id like to really make him "glow" and show off those drums.

If you're gonna put the lights up on a truss or something, I would recommend something along the lines of the Blizzard RGB pucks (or equivalent). If you're gonna put them on the floor pointing up, any number of the LED strips would do great IMO.

I've gotten some amazing looks with a couple small fixtures clamped to the cymbal stands pointed up in to the cymbals. Throws light all around the room. I think a pair of ADJ Micro Wash RGBWs clamped to the kit and focused up would be pretty nice flash. Just make sure to get the right size O-Clamps to attatch to your cymbal stands.

+1 on the Chauvet mini color strips. Pointing up and fade to the different colors.
Great uplighting and looks really good for break lighting.

ThAT was what i was gunna do 2 tbars, 4 par 38s a side laying on the floor pointing up and on a chaser, i need the movement, just looking for the best bang for the buck, yet the easiest to setup.

You know... if you really wanted to go all out, there are LED stips that you could mount around the shells (inside or out) for some cool effects... ![]()

A long time ago I was lighting Billy Cobham and I set up a rainbow spray from the floor behind him using 1000w par cans and also had a pinspot shooting up each of his octa-toms.
Looked amazing but he got a little warm.

A lot of times you can find the colorstrip minis for around 100,00 bucks.
Usually set ours up so the audio input sensitivity is up enough so they change with the kick.

Thats what im looking to do, change on the kick, maybe a bit more on the end of a song if we employ a "concert ending" just want it to be as bright as say the par cans would be.

The basic idea is to have something to catch the eye for movement, but not be soo bright that it washes out the color palettes we have washing the stage.

We used 3-4 chauvet colorpalettes uplighting the kit. One left and right of kit shining up to kit and cymbols, and 1 in front of kick , shining towards kick, center toms and any cymbols. Literally makes it glow.

Chauvet's DJ Bank might do the trick for lighting your drum kit. Not DMX but sound active and MAP's at only $ 69.99

I looked at that, but does anyone know how bright it is? Compared to say 8 par 38s which is another option ive had.
