Response from John from American Musical Supply on why I have received 2 used/damaged Korg M3's and 1 reboxed M3 from Guitar Center (a.k.a. while I'll never buy from AMS again):

Testing, testing, 1-2-3

Is this thing on? Let's see. I can subscribes to be notified when someone replies. I can tag, I can spell check. I can quote, and I can add emoticons (which leave something to be desired/need lots of work).

I can change the fonts and the sizes, and the color.

I can insert images, web links and videos it seems (I'll spare you).

I do not see a delete button either. Oh well, at least we're here and it's working ... right?

Approx 3 hours of ''Users cannot post but Admin and Mods can''

I reported it via PM and it seems they finally tweaked it...

FWIW, the small size of the avatars was something I commented about very early on in the development process. I know that a lot of people identify other users by their avatars - for some, they rely on that even moreso than screen names, and as it is now, IMO, they're too small to easily do that.

I'm definitely in favor of returning them to the same size we had on the vB site. In fact, as Craig and I have repeatedly said since the beginning, the more that this site looks and feels like the previous site, but with actual performance improvements (no database errors, page timeouts, etc.) the better. While I'm happy that there are cool new features available here, and that this site can do things the old one couldn't, I think the focus needs to be on that core look, feel and functionality, and that the other features should be addressed, added and / or refined only after those essential core items are in place and looking / working the way we want them to.

To me, that includes things like:

Making the text darker - yes, darker still. It's still too light of a shade of grey.

Making the subject line wider. Replies, New, Author, Kudos, Views and Latest Post fields can use a smaller font and / or be much narrower IMO. I'm glad those fields are there, but the subject line should get the space priority.

Turning off, or greatly dialing back the smut filter. If it can be set as a user option, even better, but as it is now, if your name is Richard and you want to use the most common nickname that goes along with that, you get bleeped. That's just ridiculous.

Making the avatars larger

Creating a single, master list of forums somewhere that is easily accessible to one and all. I don't dislike the current navigation, but there should be a master forum list in one single spot for those who prefer accessing them that way.

Obviously there's more I could list, but that's the general idea. Again, IMHO, the more it can look and feel like the old forums, the better. Once that's established, then we can add, tweak, and improve to make it even better.

Thanks for this - it works. I haven't been using Chrome, but I guess I will for this forum.

Takes some time to get used to, but it's not all bad. Stylebot helps a tad, I suppose.

it's basically just a blue version of that teaser pic that Casio released with the two MS20s and crowd, but replace the MS20s with an aging rock band. it's perfect, IMHO

Re: Will HC Forums Suck Forever?

so what's the preferred method of imbedding images now? i used to upload to my photohost, then paste [IMG] tags with the URL over. do i have to do each one individually now via the fancy encoder/uploader thing?

Click the green tree icon two past the emoticon

Click on the ''From another site'' text

past an image URL into the top cell.

Load the image (top blue button)

Type a radom character in the name cell.

Insert the image (lower blue button)

okay thanks, i've figured out that system. that pretty much removes the need for my external file hosting page, as i can just upload direct from my hard drive then correct? makes things a bit more cumbersome for posting multiple pictures in a thread i guess. my NAMM strategy will have to be modified.

are the pictures stored somewhere locally? i.e. can i copy the URL from a company's promo picture, hosted at their site and have the picture stored here without worrying about hotlinking, the photo being removed etc?

I have not tried that first item but it is set to work that way by the looks...

You can copy a URL as normal. The old site hot linked to the pic URL's posted. This site renames the URL. I assume it then hot links on some internal mapping. Otherwise maybe they do store them as you say. Not sure if they are setting up a storage problem if the latter is the case

One thing I know is you cannot copy an image URL from this site to use elsewhere. I assume this is some image security feature so the content from the forum can not be poached. Ironically it is not really that kind of forum as we link out mostly. Most forums claim copy right, but they cannot own copy right to images they did not produce but may try to claim copy right of images you own and post as they assume you are giving to this site.

In reality this has never been a problem but as you may be aware some photo hosting sites have done just that and tried to sell the user content! Worse by changing the rules mid way. Normally the law/public out cry gives them a good kicking for being so ridiculous.

I'm not entirely sure yet, but I think it's related to a security feature that's not enabled. I'm still running through the mod training tutorials (4 hours of it. Bleh.)
