I don't get it either, and I think it's not only absolutely ridiculous, but also scary [see pic of pyramid I posted earlier on this thread].

The photo that I posted here was taken using that lens. I just got my wife a Panasonic Lumix LX3 for her birthday, and she is playing with it - again mostly for pictures of our kids
I really wish I had seen it, especially knowing that your son is getting into synths thanks to you. Obviously I wasn't quick enough to check back on what pictures people were posting..

Happy birthday to your wife, Gribs. Great gift too

I should mention that in the research lab I have done quite a bit of photography under various microscopes, mostly with a Zeiss stereoscope and a Nikon research scope and using Optronix CCD cameras. There are expensive pieces of lab gear that are really nice. If I can find anything interesting in my files I will post later. I have done some time-elapsed photography of things like "black spots" eating away at OLEDs in situ while the OLED is turned on.
Would love to see that!

P.S: use bizrate.com to find the cheapest Rebel T2i possible. You will save some money.
cool- i will pick one up, cameras are 100% tax deductible for me. i've already shot a number of time-lapse video experiments by scripting the Canon Hack Development Kit (CHDK) firmware on my Powershot to prepare for the T2i video. the video should be awesome, sort of a cross between a 1960s experiment in time-lapse and a 1970s horror movie. if i like the T2i, i'll buy one.

Re: OT: The Photography Thread

Found a way to do panning automatically. Now try this with a handheld camera, lol

Next challenge: how to make the motion two-dimensional. Here it's moving in a circular motion only. I need to find a way to have it move in a straight line all while spinning. Motorized track? Any ideas on how I would build one for cheap?

Music made using what you see in the vid.

Select "720p" for clearer audio & video.

Lovely photos. Very artistic!
dSLR camera?

To insert pictures directly into your posts, upload them somewhere on the internet [photo sharing sites such as imageshack and photobucket then copy the url of the photo you want to insert on here and paste it into the "Insert Image" icon you see above the box where you reply to a post

These are some pics I took while in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty cloudy, so they aren't all that spectacular, at least lighting wise..

Re: OT: The Photography Thread

Nice pics, old cities at dusk or lit up are gorgeous.

Going to be in York later in December for a BDSM night, so I might get across a bit early for a little night shoot.

Re: OT: The Photography Thread

BDSM shots or it didn't happen!

Great shots, Tom. Good composition, especially on the last photo and the one at the bar/restaurant. I think they would have looked a lot better if they were taken with a better camera. Is this a phonecam by any chance? iPhone perhaps?

That looks like a Gothic town. Dracula would love to live and suck some blood there

Ferran: that is one fine camera!

I never used a dSRL before. Maybe some day

Oh Med, now you made me feel like the worst photographer ever xD. That IS a DSLR, Canon EOS1000D to be exact.

Actually, I'm pretty bad at taking pictures. This was the first time that I manually set all the settings. It has been a good way to learn about all the camera's features, and while not the best, I'm defenitly proud of the pictures (I took like 280 pictures in those 4 days xD)

Re: OT: The Photography Thread

lol Tom, now I am the one who feels like the worst photographer because I am obviously blind, lol

But seriously, there's just something about them that's missing [nothing to do with the composition of the shots]. It must be some of the settings you made in manual mode, like ISO sensitivity, shutter speed and aperture. The photos look too small too [resolution]. I think you reduced the image size in your photo program so much that some of the detail and clarity [sharpness] are lost. Does the camera allow you to shoot at low resolution? Some cameras do that in continuous/burst mode because the sensor can't keep up with so many photos being taken in a second. So the photos are shot are a fraction of the actual resolution of the camera.

Side note about composition: I don't know if you already know about this rule in photography called "the rule of thirds" but you did it in all of those photos. Very nice

It's great that you are using full manual. It's not that easy to master! I am still trying to.

Well, these pics are resized indeed. I uploaded them to facebook, and just copy-pasted them here... I'll check the laptop to see if I can upload some of the originals.

Much clearer/sharper.

I do see a difference in these.

The first and third ones are my favorite!

No cameras allowed at such events i'm afraid, it's technically illegal in the UK.
