Click on the thread title. How you get to the first post remains a mystery.

If I click on the thread title, it takes me to the first post in the thread. If I click on the number under the "New" column, it takes me to the first unread post. If I click on the time that the last poster made a post, it takes me to that last post.

That's great info. I was wondering the same thing, and it would not have occurred to me to click on the number in the New column, which is a light gray and doesn't look "clickable." I wonder if it might be worth putting that line of informtaion on the first page (not that I'm eager to clutter the first page with anything that may require you to scroll more before seeing any useful content, since I'm usually on a small screen, so placement would have to be considered). Or if not that, maybe underline the New numbers, which always makes something look like it is clickable, even if the reason to click won't be as immediately obvious... it at least can kind of point people in the right direction, better than nothing.

It changed. Earlier, clicking on the thread title took me to the last post I'd read. Now it takes me to the first post. Grrr. Very odd that clicking the number does what it does, but thanks, Pupster!

Well, darn -- clicking the number doesn't seem to work, but maybe because in this case the number was 0.
There's a checkbox in My Settings - Preferences - Linear Layout
"Jump to first unread post in a topic"
I have that checked. Earlier, it worked; now it doesn't seem to.
stoopid forum thinks that dash-greaterthan (to make an arrow) is HTML. Grr.

If the number is zero, then there are zero new messages in that thread; You've already read them all. Counterintuitively, if you click on the number when it's zero, it takes you to the first post. Should it take you to the last post? I don't know.
I think other forum software does it more sensibly: Show a clickable icon ONLY if there are no unread posts.
Derp.

Works for me. I also have things set up so that the newest messages are at the top, not the bottom of the page.

My newest messages have always been on top. And still, if I click the thread title, it takes me to the first unread post.

Sounds like it is working correctly to me.

Yes. Very troubling.

Works fine for me for Hai Guyz. One thing I've done that maybe you haven't is that I've explicitly marked this forum as "read". That'll clear the "last read" counter for all threads for you, and it'll work for the big threads from that point forward.
At the top of the thread list is a drop-down labeled "Board Options", just to the right of the blue "New message" button. Just hit that and select "Mark all as read".
