I mean, if you really want to get down to it, a true VCO isn't controlled by voltage anyway, it's controlled by an exponential current that is converted from the linear input voltage. So VCOs aren't really directly controlled by voltage anyway.

What is this 'pencil' of which you speak?

Besides, in Soviet Russia, synth draws on you.

I fail at photoshop.

Imagine an 80-key C-G hammer-action keyboard, mod & pitch wheels above the keys on the left, and the entire surface above the rest of the keyboard is a touch screen.

The rear panel includes 4 1/4" analog inputs. I'd use two for my upper tier to avoid needing a mixer, and one for my guitar (using DSP amp/cap modeling).

Of course, it weighs about 20 lbs, and it's only 50" long, 4" high, and say 14" deep (maybe less). Plus it comes in an unweighted 61-key version for the top, and either unit's display can control both units.

Don't worry, I'll keep dreaming.

Boo, knobs -- sliders are so much easier to read at a glance!

But I do like the LEDs around the knobs. Is there a version with encoders rather than pots?

This is just a drawing, not any project i'm working on. Though I would wish.
The reason I'm not using sliders, is that sliders takes a lot of space. You know it would be like a JD-800.
I wanted to prove that it is possible to make a compact and knob per function interface for FM synths. That is my purpose. Knobs with leds have been used before, like on the Nord Lead 3 and Nord Modular G2. And those was very popular :smileyhappy:.
As you notice, the knobs doesn't have a name, they only represent the function on the display above. And that allows flexibility. :smileyhappy:
This is my only version, but if it is any improving points, I would consider to draw it in.
I would say rotary encoders would be good for some of the parameters.
And some knobs that are endless and some that are not on other parameters.
But you wouldn't be able to see it on the drawing anyways. :smileyhappy:

Re: Draw your synth !

It's a great idea, and yes you can fit more knobs than sliders. I'm just a slider bigot. :-)

I didn't notice that the knob labels were displays, though it is obvious. Definitely a good idea, and knobs are easier to control well than touching a flat panel.

The visual difference between pots and encoders is that pots have an indicator (white line) and encoders don't. That's how I knew they were pots! There's something to be said for and against either kind.

If I can't get my flat panel display, then I want motorized sliders. *digs in his heels*

Thanks! ^^

Oh I thought Rotary encoders was the kind pots who have steps on them.
On Supernova II keyboard, all knobs look the same, but some had steps and some not.

Re: Draw your synth !

Down, on the left corner you can see the bender and a big trackpad.

So you can use the trackpad like wheels or to change the sound/parameters...

More interesting, you can use it in the three axis.

You can also use the trackpad and the bender at the same time.
