Did you know that when replying to a quote, the new system keeps you at that quote after posting your reply. This is better than any other forum as it means you can continue reading the thread without having to find the page you had got too.
It also gives you an option to jump to your reply...
So if your catching up after being away (hint hint) then you can post and read at the same time.. That is great !!!
We even have spell check... YAY

Phil O'Keefe wrote:FWIW, the small size of the avatars was something I commented about very early on in the development process. I know that a lot of people identify other users by their avatars - for some, they rely on that even moreso than screen names, and as it is now, IMO, they're too small to easily do that.
I'm definitely in favor of returning them to the same size we had on the vB site. In fact, as Craig and I have repeatedly said since the beginning, the more that this site looks and feels like the previous site, but with actual performance improvements (no database errors, page timeouts, etc.) the better. While I'm happy that there are cool new features available here, and that this site can do things the old one couldn't, I think the focus needs to be on that core look, feel and functionality, and that the other features should be addressed, added and / or refined only after those essential core items are in place and looking / working the way we want them to.
To me, that includes things like:
Making the text darker - yes, darker still. It's still too light of a shade of grey.
Making the subject line wider. Replies, New, Author, Kudos, Views and Latest Post fields can use a smaller font and / or be much narrower IMO. I'm glad those fields are there, but the subject line should get the space priority.
Turning off, or greatly dialing back the smut filter. If it can be set as a user option, even better, but as it is now, if your name is Richard and you want to use the most common nickname that goes along with that, you get bleeped. That's just ridiculous.
Making the avatars larger
Creating a single, master list of forums somewhere that is easily accessible to one and all. I don't dislike the current navigation, but there should be a master forum list in one single spot for those who prefer accessing them that way.
Obviously there's more I could list, but that's the general idea. Again, IMHO, the more it can look and feel like the old forums, the better. Once that's established, then we can add, tweak, and improve to make it even better.

Please PM either Craig or myself with:
The user name you want to recover
Your current user name
The email you want to use for verification
The original email you used to sign up (if you can't provide it, mention that in the PM)

Yes, a lead lined suppository will be fine, otherwise you will look like a ready break kid in the morning ;-)

Phil O'Keefe wrote:First of all, it's IT support. The old site has been having issues since September 2011. GC Corporate doesn't have a vB expert on staff to assist us. We've tried to hire a few different outside contractors, but as evidenced by the poor site performance over the past year or so, none of them were up to the task of dealing with a vB site as large and complex as HC. That's my perspective on it, and while I don't see all the corporate insider stuff, I think it's fairly accurate.
There's also the issue of servers. We would have needed more - a lot more. Plus the issue of spam and attacks there, which although you guys only saw a small percentage of that, it was killing our moderators dealing with all the stuff that was getting through to the moderation queues that they had to delete.
The contract with the company that was hosting half of the HC site - the part with the User Reviews, Industry News, Articles, videos, etc. was expiring, and we definitely didn't want to renew with them. Think HC 2.0 - those guys. Enuff said. And vB wasn't capable of handling that part of HC, so something had to replace at least that.
In a nutshell, it just wasn't practical from an operational standpoint.
