If the Kangzzz have decided to abandon the hardware, then their website is going to need a major redesign, as there is currently there is no visible indication, and indeed, a significant amount to the contrary.

Re: Beat Kangz of Comedy - epic fail?

I'm listening to their sound demos on their webpage and while I'm not a rap/hip hop guy, I can't imagine anyone being impressed by these sounds.

As an aside, I rarely, if ever, return to a website such as this that plays background music by default.

Re: Beat Kangz of Comedy - epic fail?

Hmmm.... Well I'm not big into MPC stuff, but Zoom products seemed to be one up typically. Not like I'm sad to see them ditch the hardware, but I did like the design and thought it was a lot cooler than a bunch of plain looking sh!t out there. I wonder how good and easy at sample editing it is. It could be useful if it runs on batteries. I'm finding more that I enjoy taking my gear around to other rooms to get a dif. perspective instead of trapped in one spot. Hmmm... I think these guys got a lot of crap, probably more than they 'deserve' (ducks). Didn't care for their marketing, but everything else seemed pretty decent. But I do know, A long long time ago... there was a battle wagged on earth... coming from a distant galaxy.... (can we get a Diametro pic here please.... somehow thinking Voltron)

...or even 5,000
5000 isn't bad for a small MI hardware company, provided the profit margin is reasonable.

I'd really like to check out the Beat Thang—It appears to stream directly from SD cards, and I'm REALLY curious to see what kind of polyphony it pulls off, how much of a RAM buffer it's using, that sort of thing.

Hell, I'd even offer to write their manual. :smileysad:

Re: Beat Kangz of Comedy - epic fail?

TAW, you're assuming that they actually made the hardware work. There's really no assurance of that at this point. The youtube "demos" (the thang lives!! arghhh...) sound like they didn't need much polyphony at all, and even the sound demos they have on their website don't offer a sonic improvement over an SB-246/RT-223 which I think also has flash memory (and compressed sounds).

Re: Beat Kangz of Comedy - epic fail?

I have the Beat Thang Virtual, it's not a bad piece of kit for what it is. I can see that they're trying to target youngsters who want something affordable with decent features. I initially was hoping it would be a virtual replacement for my MPC 1000 with JJOS, but it's just not there yet. Aja says his dev team is working to add more features such as vst/au/rtas support and extensive step editing, so I still am going to give them some time before I write them off. The marketing has eased up a bit from the ridiculousness at the beginning, but it definitely turned a lot of people off who might have given a deeper look.

Re: Beat Kangz of Comedy - epic fail?

For me, the draw of the hardware thang wasn't any one feature, but the combination of features. Although the RAM-streaming feature was near the top of my list.

It certainly seems to have worked, unless they spent their budget trying to fake a working box in all the videos.

If the Beat Thang hardware doesn't see the light of day, it'll be extremely sad, as there were most likely a handful of very talented engineers and project managers who worked tirelessly, only to have their design marginalized and undermined by early marketing attempts. It's like writing a great screenplay, and then Ashton Kutcher comes along and insists on executive producing, and lets Uwe Boll direct.

Trust me, it takes a HELL of a lot of work to create a piece of mass-market MI hardware, and The Beat Kangz, while suggesting features and probably picking colors and buttons, had very little to do with the actual design of the product. I mean, we've asked them repeatedly to give us a polyphony count, and they don't even seem to know.

I'll say. An unfortunate state of affairs for what might have been (could still be?) a very nifty piece of hardware.

Re: Beat Kangz of Comedy - epic fail?

I actually (originally) revisited this topic because I thought there was a review. I saw a while ago that you could purchase (or was it pre-order) on their site and the price was around $1000 if I remember correctly. Did I have too many to drink that night or did anyone else see that? (or does my post count, 4444, signify the death of this machine :lol:smileyhappy:

The Kangz are the only ones who have had "too many to drink".
