That's an idea. I already use a mat to attach my pedals to. An upgrade and extension might do the trick. Or, I'm also thinking about some kind of suspended harness system. . . hmm

Re: Anyone using a stool?

When I was gigging I always sat on a cheap padded keyboard bench that the legs folded up (still have it and use it actually, though had to get a new bolt cuz I've gotten so fat over the years that I actually bent the bolt that holds it together and couldn't get it to stay in, it collapsed on me several times while I was sitting on it rocking the 88's, no joke LOL)

I remember a guy I met that played keys and somehow this topic came up and I asked him if he stood or sat, and he got all heated and was like "of course I sit down! Standing up playing keys? What the fuck do you think, I'm in Flock of Seagulls?" I don't know, I thought it was pretty funny that he had such a strong opinioin about it LOL...

Re: Anyone using a stool?

I have a couple of these:

Got them at Walmart for $15 each. Light, takes up little room, works fine.

A bench is nicer, though.

When I used to play standing, I would notice that before the end of each 45 minute set, my left leg would lose circulation and start getting numb. That was another reason for getting the bench.

Re: Anyone using a stool?

For long rehearsals or longer performances, I've used a drum throne with a back on it. Highly recommended. Adjustable height, quiet, very cushy. The collapsible 3 leg kind. Invaluable for stage performances.

Update

Just to update this thread, I ended up getting the Roc-n-soc Nitro Extended Thrones. Extends to 30" or so,

so it should be perfect. You know, it was pretty difficult to find a 30"+ portable stool that didn't look like **bleep**.

Quik-loc makes one but it's a really strange design, almost like it was made from surplus parts they had

lying around. Anyway, went with the Nitro Extended.

No stool here. Either bench, for playing out; or captains chair in the home studio.

I use that also, and have liked it. Although, I am beginning to suspect it has played a role in some recent lower back pain. The seat gets bad with time. I need to look into a replacement, if they make one.
