We Want Miles

Marcus Miller and Mike Stern are just killin' on this.  That is all.  You may now return to your dopey Simple Rock.

Re: We Want Miles

That album could very well have Marcus Miller's career-best moment. Terrific bass playing.

And definitely one of Miles's best 80s albums.

Re: We Want Miles

Stern's solo in the long version of Jean Pierre is one of my favorites by him.

Just listened to the disc the other day. Damn good. Just damn good, son.

Re: We Want Miles

Yeah, everything he did from his last Prestige session through, say, "On the Corner"' was absolutely stunning and destroys everything that followed.

But some of those late records could be interesting, inventive, and scattered with great ideas. They do reward repeated listening,

I'm not so sure of yer police work, there, Lou, especially since "Pangaea" was released after "On the Corner".

Re: We Want Miles

I like those records, but I they're not in the same class as the quintet records, the Gil Evans collaborations, "Round About Misnight", "Milestones", "Kind of Blue", or "Jack Johnson". Maybe I'm stretching a bit with 'On the Corner'.

Re: We Want Miles

Jean Pierre and Mike Stern´s solo, starting at 3.50 something, was mentioned by 3shiftgtr. Interesting solo: Stern somewhat destroy the grove made by drums and bass, and I can understand why. Funk fusion often becomes stiff and static and almost impossible to get out of, but an anarchistic solo makes it looser.

You guys are comparing steaks to donuts.  The early 80's was a different time.  Lets try to focus.

Have another large portion of dumb rock.  Stern is killin' regardless of your head injuries.

Only true if we're talking about Miles' post-"retirement" output.  Otherwise, I think Sam Prekop himself would tell you you're full of shit.

He's a sacred cow. Like the Beatles, no one can possibly think his music is awful without earning the ire of the geezer aristocracy who aims to deliniate all things Tasteful and Important, music-wise.

Davis is still discussed over snifters of brandy by snobs in smoking jackets, but he's hardly ever heard outside of elevators anymore. That is progress.

You live in a delusional world.  Davis was a wife beater and many people won't let you forget it.  Step outside your imagination for once.  Also, real jazz fans don't drink brandy.  They drink courvoiser.
