The Winners' History of Rock and Roll

Verges on "Alternative Nation"-lite, but I have enjoyed it so far.

That long (but empty) list of your favorites totally confounded my Nexus 7 tablet's Chrome browser... I never could get to the bottom of the page... it just kept scrolling endlessly. It was, in a certain sense, vaguely amusing.

sorry, but i'm not going to read an article on led zeppelin that mentions Eminem not once, not twice, but six times.

Dolls may be smaller than 12 inches, but as long as they still have clothing that can be completely removed.

Re: The Winners' History of Rock and Roll

I'm about halfway through the Zep article, it's very "rock-criticky". And I love this gem-"the science of close-miking amps". Er, uhm, it was distance mic'ing that Page espoused.

Re: The Winners' History of Rock and Roll

interesting, but failing to see the difference between critical disdain for early Zep and Nickleback seems like a lack on insight. The early critics of Zep were simply wrong. Zep's songs didn't all sound alike, they just weren't used to consistently loud/hard music. And their interpretation of black blues was the first interpretation in rock that took that blues and made something uniquely rock out of it. The Yardbirds or early Stones fit more accurately the characterization of playing the blues in blackface.
