Re: Olive Garden, Red Lobster Still in Trouble

What, no mention of the boycott?

I'm not one who likes to turn forum discussions political, but this story actually has a political element not being mentioned. A few months ago Darden foods, owner of RL and OG, was revealed in the press as already having quietly begun the now-standard strategy of service businesses preparing for the new health care law provisions: move your employees to part time below the threshold for providing a health care plan. When that became public knowledge a couple months back, they lost a lot of customers. I saw a report tonight that their business was down 37% from the same time last year. They already sucked a year ago. This latest downturn seems to be more from the boycott.

A boycott really hurts the poor employees...for anyone who hasn't worked as a tipped employee in the US, MOST servers make $2.13 an hour(in CA and WA, it's higher). Additionally, most servers aren't able to work full-time anyway-there just aren't enough hours available, so the health care law's a little irrelevant here.

What I really meant to say...thanks for coming out tonight...tip your waiter/waitress and bartender generously!

is it participating in a boycott if you were already refusing to go?

Yes, but now you have to look down on the boycotters because you were doing it before it was a thing.

Oh, Olive Garden? I like their soup and salad. Ironically.

Who cares? Do you know how often I eat at chain restaurants compared to local eateries?

Re: Olive Garden, Red Lobster Still in Trouble

I don't know about Olive Garden, but Red Lobster has the food precooked sitting on plates ready to be reheated... and it comes to the table looking a week old. I just can't eat that.
