[Yer Blues]

Saw a concert of theirs on Palladia last night.  Good songs, good musicians.... even some long guitar solos.  The singer also plays guitar.  I'm glad I caught the concert.  Is anybody else here not too cool to like them?

They really are good. I love their songs, contemporary, soulful and good arrangements.

LOL... I thought that before I watched last night.  The entire band was pretty tight, the singer put on a good show.  The guitarist did some interesting work.  I listened to them today when I was walking the dog and enjoyed it.

I'm really surprised Maroon 5 has stuck around for as long as they have. I remember them being popular when I was in junior high school, for fuck's sake. That's a lot of staying power for such an incredibly mediocre band that's mostly known for annoying songs.

I wasn't ashamed to like the first album when it came out.  They sort of picked up the Justin Timberlakey undeniable groove section of the pop market. 

Then they lost all of the funk and became a really slick mainstream pop band, and I kinda lost interest.

They're ok.  I liked a couple of their early tunes but Moves Like Jagger makes me want to weld my ears shut.

Saw them a few years ago opening for Counting Crows and they put on a decent show, though it was badly mixed; tons of super-lows & high-highs, not much in between except for when Levine was playing guitar.  He seems pretty capable on the guitar and sounded good.  Used a Bogner stack IIRC.

I may have jumped the gun just a bit.... I listened to more of their stuff on spotify and actually have heard a few of their songs.  It seems like the more recent stuff is really studio polished.  They have an acoustic album on there that is pretty good.  I don't get the recent stuff though... they have autotune on the singers voice.  The guy has a great voice.  If you have to use autotune on him... man the rest of us don't have a chance.

there is nothing inherently wrong with commercial music but let us not fool ourselves, Maroon5 is the commercial cream of the commercial crop.

I really liked their first album "Songs About Jane." Their stuff since then has been getting more and more pop commercial, and though that's not my favorite, I do admit that they know how to write catchy songs that I can't help but sing along to in the car. Adam has a great voice, but from the few times I saw them live, not the best live performer. He seems like a pretty cool guy though. I wish they would lean more towards rock on their next project.

The first album was pretty autotuned as well.  That's just the state of the pop industry these days.  When in doubt - autotune.
