Intersting: Slash taking lessons from Yngwie

[ Edited ]

1:06, & the solo at the end...

...anyways, I find this way more interesting than Yngwie, but I'm biased...

He does seem to like harmonic minor.

Although I imagine Yngwie would be the kind of teacher who tells you to go like this, shreds an avalanche of notes and the just kind of facepalms you when you can't get it.

And then Yngwie would call you a "looser".

The singer has a really good voice and that band is good.

I don't listen to Slash much anymore, but he has definitely grown as a musician.  It is great to see (hear).

Wow that was horrible.

I don't mind that Slash is growing as a musician just don't do it onstage.

I bet Yngwie would love to give lessons to Slash, didn't he once say Slash's bends are never in pitch?

Just in one of the "in the listening room" articles. I remember he said that in his review of Sweet Child O Mine

Re: Intersting: Slash taking lessons from Yngwie

bends not in pitch?

Does Yngwie also complain about ornamentations in Indian or Japanese music not being "in pitch" ?

Slash is a blues-based player, for cryin out loud- bends are not about intonation, they're about emulating a human cry (if you will), similar to above-mentioned stylistic ornamentations

But I guess I don't need to build a case for Yngwie being a sad entity...

I enjoyed his playing with GnR more. This is just further evidence of the destructive influence of Yngwie Malmsteen on music, and on live in general.

This video shows a lot of improvement in his technique, but going back to his GNR days, I think that one of the things that is instantly recognizable about Slash and not in a good way, is that he plays flat all of the time (meaning, his bends are never in tune).  You don't need Yngwie's ear to hear that.  I don't think that it is Slash's "feel" either, he just wasn't mature as a player when they recorded.  With that said, he has a sound that is his, he has sold a billion records, so he must be doing something right.

I don't mean to be an **bleep**, but:

[**bleep** comment] I perform with and conduct ensembles that perform in both modern tuning and baroque (unequal temperment) tuning and have to be able to distinguish the two, and Slash's bends have never bothered me...[/**bleep** comment]

But I guess others feel differently... or maybe others are being the **bleep**?

Ok, now I know how the new forum works.

Are we still allowed to disagree with people on here? Am I going to get banned?

I think we can still disagree, otherwise what is the point of having a discussion forum.

Sorry, that comment was geared towards my surprise at the new censorship mechanism on the forum.

And I have now figured out how to quote, so my posts should reach a new level of clarity

I've never had a problem with his bends either. *shrugs*
