Re: I like Mexican food, but I don't want to eat it every day...

How do you cope with the frequent use of tomato as a base in Indian curries?

Re: I like Mexican food, but I don't want to eat it every day...

I guess I'm not opposed to dumping a can of diced toms in the beans and rice. Or maybe chopping a fresh slightly-overripe tom and adding it.

Fresh pico de gallo will add a lot more, flavor/texture-wise than canned tomatos, and it's pretty fast/easy/cheap to make a bunch and have it all week. I'll often make some on Sunday and keep it around to top stuff like tacos and beans+rice, and to put in burritos.

Mas tranquillo que tu, hermano.

Thank you for your thoughtful contribution.

But I get it. The notion that preferences aren't achievements is hard to swallow when you base as much of your self esteem on "tastemanship" as some of you seem to do. But the notion is so utterly absurd that it's hard to argue in favor of it.

So you do whatever you can to distract, or sidestep, or redirect, or talk about elastic waistbands and the Olive Garden. And that's cool. Whatever you need to do to keep feeling good about yourself.

I get it tho - it's much easier to do that than to address what I've been saying all along; be proud of the things that you do, not the things that you prefer. Having a preference does not constitute an achievement.

Well, that's great. You should be very proud of your ability to unfailingly find a moral high ground in situations where it's completely unnecessary.

Well, yeah. Like, duh. But that's just your preference. Maybe you have time for that, but yr only other hobby is bluejeans.

Somewhat different set of spices/flavors, I guess. And no beans. :idk:

I'm starting to feel like you people think of chili as some kind of Mexican curry. Is that at the root of this rice thing? :smileytongue:oke:

8 pages on this thread? EIGHT?????????!!!???? I like all kinds of food and all kinds of music. There are some of both I can live without, though. I'm not TOO crazy about Vietnamese food, except when certain friends make it, and I don't like torch singers much, except Nat "King" Cole and later Tony Bennet. But other than that, any food or music that's well-done I'm probably going to enjoy. (Well, maybe not Punk or Heavy Metal)

Re: I like Mexican food, but I don't want to eat it every day...

Good taste IS an achievement. It requires hours of careful consumption and evaluation to achieve it. It's really a scholarly endeavor.

OK - now we're getting somewhere.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I disagree.

Creation is the scholarly endeavor. Appreciation is armchair quarterbacking.

If you learn to cook well, or brew beer, or paint, or write music - then you have every right to be proud of what you've accomplished. If I just go to a restaurant and order X, that makes me a consumer, nothing more and nothing less. And being a consumer is nothing to be proud of. Everybody on earth is a consumer.

I mean, maybe through cultivating your tastemanship you've found a way to satisfy your senses more thoroughly than somebody else might have. But so what? Should those who are really good at masturbating also be proud of their achievement?
