When I was in what we now call middle school, the cafeteria served 'em once a week. So, since they were one of the few edible items on the revolving menu, tater tots became currency. Kinda like cigarettes are in prison.
Don't get me wrong, I like 'em every once in a while, not too different from frozen frenchfry product, convenient, easy cleanup.

Junk food. Which isn't an absolute bad but they can be improved upon with creative spices.

They are uncool.
In his movie, "Horror Hayride", Webb Wilder is seen eating Tater Tots, and offering some to the person he's with.
I'd consider that to be clear evidence of the coolness of Tater Tots.
