This redesign is awful. Didn't HC learn from its' 2.0 screw up?
I'll come back when they inevitable switch back to vbb.
Actually HC2.0 looked a tad better than this

Where is the skins???
AFAIK, there are no "skins" or apps - the site auto detects the type of device you're signed in on, and optimizes for that. I can view it great on my iPhone or iPad Mini, although the "quote" button appears to be missing - and we already have a repair ticket in on that.
We also have several ongoing discussions with the design / development team and the Lithium folks about some of the other issues - such as this blasted wrapping in the rich text box when posting, and the way too light text color and small default font size. I'm pretty sure all of those are scheduled to be fixed within a day.
Yes, we advised them all - several times - that the text was too small and too light, that musicians like to swear (and we only asked to keep it out of thread titles, not forum posts themselves), etc. etc. and that people would complain. Now they're seeing that we weren't joking.

Why didn't we just upgrade to the latest vBulletin? I've been on a lot of forumns that run great with vBulletin, why does HC completely **bleep** the bed on choosing a platform?
A few reasons. GC IT didn't have a vB expert on staff from what I can tell, and finding a contractor to handle a vB site as big as ours who was any good was proving to be extremely difficult - we went through a few of them. Also, the servers were an issue (they would probably have needed a bunch more) as as the issue of spam. One of the big advantages of Lithium is that there is built-in, contracted IT support for us. They might not be able to do each and every thing we want (for example, they never have had multiquote, but they're looking into adding that functionality), but they are responsible for at least keeping the site up and responding - and as much as this may be a PITB overall, I have to say that at least it frickin' works - which the old sites (forums and front page areas) had been having problems for over a year - since September of 2011.
We wanted to launch later - and only after all the moderators and some select power users from the community had a chance to really work over the site and find the flaws, and after the design and Lithium teams had a chance to get the fixes into place, but it really came down to having a choice between a site that even the administrators couldn't access or control with any regularity, or a working site that needed some refinement, additional development and polishing. While neither choice was ideal, we opted for the later option. IMHO, better to have something that allows many / most people to post in a timely manner than something that prevents the majority of people from doing anything at all.
We'll / they'll get the bulk of the complaints sorted out and fixed, but it's going to take a bit of time. Still, I expect to see some progress in place by tomorrow morning.

Well the iPhone use is better. Thanks for the effort Phil. Hope it all gets sorted.
*I would love to use a **bleep** Phil thumbs up here but I don't **bleep** know how to.
The old smileys were all covered by vBulletin copyrights, and that's why Lithium can't use them. Still, I'd be all for paying a license fee if it was reasonable - but I don't know if that's even possible or not. I was told that they could use the non-vB smileys (including the "phil" stuff), and I thought they were going to, but obviously they're not in there yet. I have had much more important (IMHO) requests that I've been pushing for, such as the stoopid scrolling issue (supposed to be fixed RSN) in the rich text box, the color of the text font, etc., so the emoticons haven't been something I've pushed for yet. However, others have mentioned their dissatisfaction with the current smiley situation over in the Feedback forum, so I know they've been made aware of it. I'll also push for that, but again, I think there's a lot of more important things that they should focus on first.

That's like upgrading the server goatse is hosted on. Is there an upside to the page being loaded quickly if you're just getting goatse in the end?
does it really count as getting anything if there is no skin contact?

At least it's up and loading quickly.
So we can complain quicker.
