woah. i was automatically taken to the mobile site. was wondering what the hell everyone was talking about bald guitar players and how to edit and reply to posts...

maybe check out the mobile version, it's a lot easier to read, but lacking tons of features.

is there a way to "go to new post" like on the old forum when you clicked on the little arrows just to the left of the thread title?

Click on the bit where it says how many seconds/minutes/etc ago the last post was made.

Please, for the love of god, get rid of the background, or at least give us the option to make it a single color. Light blue? White? Black? Anything but the corball 'gig' shot.

Yep. Go to 'my settings' then 'preferences' then 'linear layout' and tick the box that says 'Jump to first unread post in a topic'.

It would be easier with a button but that seems to be the only way to do it.

I like the new mobile site, it looks nice and I like the color scheme.    

The new desktop site:  background is too busy, header takes up half the page, and the adverts being on the side insted of on the humongous header is annoying.  

Couple things I would redo:  

Merge the site logo, profile & messages area with that little visual EQ design that's above it, then put the ads up there, in the space inbetween my profile **bleep** and the HC logo.  
Cut back on the spacing from on the left & right sides & get rid of the American Idolish images of music being performed and just have the blue dots on white.

The mobile site isn't horrible. It's not fantastic either, but it's better than the desktop version for me.

That is what they call "progress" and "improvement".  Get with the times.  Apparently we "users" don't actually know what good interface design looks like.  Some young hipsters that only know about FaceBook and Twitter are going to re-educate us from our ways.

Because one extra step makes things so much simpler /sarcasm

edit: and there's another one. Instead of having an edit button we now have to go into the options menu (which is full of things that are useless or redundant*) and hit edit.

*there's a 'report innapropriate content' button on the left, and one in the options menu, yet people will hardly ever use it compared to functions like edit or quote. ffs
