Re: We Want to Hear What You Think About the New Design

the difference between using hc forums and others is almost staggering.  don't get me wrong, the performance of your new platform is great, but the usability (hover, less cluttered-all u see is thread title, date, last reply-like it used to be here...) of the others leaves hc in the dust.  i've been a member here for several years and am sorry to see hc being left behind.

just sayin'...

There was a name there for a day or two that a Google search seemed to indicate was real.  I can't remember what it was, but I guess she didn't want her name associated with this heap o' poo.  Maybe she's looking for a new job and didn't want prospective employers to find out what people think of her latest project.

Was gonna tag the OP as cumdump, but it seems robot girl was smart enough to disable the tag option on her OP.

Sorry; I'm a little late, but the "Message Listing" link takes you back. It's horribly named (we're working on that), but it should do the trick.

Actually you probably shouldn't hear what I think (as in, summarise my feelings) right now.

Instead of telling you how I feel what I'm doing instead is identifying, in separate threads, the things that I'm finding that are broken or have gone missing (or perhaps I've misunderstood).

That seems to me to be more useful that expressing my feelings here, or adding another list of problems, to this already overlong thread.

It would be best to add to this thread, even if it's overlong and seems couterintuitive because of that. We really do want to hear what you have to say and this is the thread where we'll be doing that, so fire away.

Also, we've started a blog (hate that word) to give you all updates on what we're working on so that you can see what's being addressed. It's located at http://www.harmonycentral.com/t5/Site-Updates/Site-Enhancement-Update/ba-p/34676360

I'd be happy if you just changed the BG color to the darker grey that's being used on the sticky threads(Deals&Spam) in the electric guitar section.

Meowmi, why is our feedback being solicited?

Nice and all to get free/volunteer bug identificatio and logging, but the "we really want to know what you think" is ... hard to believe in, when it seems that information is ignored, or at best, processed in some way that is hidden from those who are providing it.

Asking for feedback is soliciting effort, and it's only right that people be told what their efforts are for.

I've got over ten years experience implementing and testing extraordinarily complex code. Primarily on the testing end.

Putting 'all your bugs in one basket' is just not a good idea...especially if there are multiple bug submitters... and make that double-secret-probation-especially if there is a greek chorus of users with the access to the same. The task of ferreting out the little bits of gold from the acres of mud is a wasteful task in your proposed format.

You had beeter ALTER YOUR PLANS and read thru all the indiviual threads.... those submitted by myself, baob, danhedonia, and some others have got nice little testcases or UI descriptions of bugs. Having separate threads also makes it VERY SIMPLE for a developer (or interface person, etc) to create a response that says "this bug is fixed in version a.b_c.d"

This thread was not initially identified as the one-and-only place to enter bugs/issues/enhancements. To do so after 5 days of bug summission is, well, unprofessional. And I say that as a former software QA professional.

We were given a forum to offer feedback. That feedback is in the forum we were given...the entire forum.

As an example....did you know that Spoliers are broke? There are multiple bugs in their entry, and they cannot be opened in a IE browser. There are 3 threads FULL of multiple testcases for entry bugs, and they make great cases for verification of openning Spoilers with various contents. ...but to ADD THEM TO THIS THREAD...THEN DO IT FOR ALL THE BUGS WE'VE FOUND???? This would cause the threadlength to explode and it's readability to decrease exponentially.

...the longer I type here,  the angrier I get.

Please tell me you are a little more organized in-house. That there is a real bug-tracking system, that consists of somethingmore than yellow-sticky notes. And that y'all are running SOME FORM of regression testing to ensure that Fix B doesn't unfix something in Fix A.

We're actually making changes that you're asking for. If you go to the Site Updates blog, you'll see what we've been doing and what's coming up.

For instance, we've fixed the scrolling issue that happened early on. We've widened the pages for forum listings so that the subjects aren't all squished together. Sure, these are small tweaks--since they're easier to do, they're happening faster, but we're continuing to update the site so that it's more what you guys want. That's the hope, anyway.

Sorry if I was unclear. We can definitely go through the Feedback forum and check out the threads. I was actually referring to suggestions and feedback made in, say, the Electric Guitars forum.

So yes, we'll be checking all of the threads here. Of course, the clearer everyone is about what the issue is and where they're seeing is, the better.

I've sent the broken spoiler issue to Lithium to troubleshoot, so there should be a fix soon.

It's looking better, so- dare I say it... kudos to you guys for that. The subject line thing really makes things easier on the eyes. The color scheme is stil, unfortunatly, a little rough on 'em still.

Also I think the overall forum structure is REALLY WEIRD, what with everything that's under "gear forums" and all the sub sub sub forums and whatnot. As I have years posting here and know what I'm looking for it's merely annoying for me, but for someone new I think it really hides a lot of information. There needs to be ONE PAGE that displays all the forums and subforums right off the bat.

Thanks for your work. I hope the improvements continue!

Definitely, there should be some kind of site map where it's all laid out on one page.  But, I'll say this for the sub-forums... I kind of like going to the top-level guitar forum and being able to see the active threads from Mapz, EG, Effects and GJ all in one place.  I might even venture out of GJ because of it.  That could be interesting for the HC community going forward.

It's hard to face the truth, but I suppose you yourself realize that if you'd had just a little more courage, just a little more strength of character, you could have been dead by now. No such luck.

Getting better!

Darken the band images on the sides or make them a darker gray/bw image. Way too bright and distracting.

Darken the page body more of a gray color. The white is too bright. Take it down some.

Change "Message Links" text to "Return to Forum" or something more familiar.

Add number of replies to posts.

Set post default view to FIRST post when clicking a post in a forum. It's default is last post from what I can tell. If a user wants last page, they can click the number or "last" if that is an option.

Keep up the work. It's starting to shape up.

These are almost all on the list (are you reading our minds?!). THe background should have updated by now (it's a gray linen)--refresh if you can't see it yet. The gray background on posts is something we're working on and which may launch next week. That Message Listing link is definitely going away (and yes, it'll be called "Back to Forum").

I think you'll have to go into the HTML tab of the Reply page and tinker around in there. That's how I do it.

When I hit "Quote," I got 3 sets of nested quotes, which I deleted most of in the Rich Text tab. Then, there was just an empty border left, which I removed by going to the HTML tab and deleted <blockquote><hr /></blockquote>.
