CJ is not gone, it's in with the guitars section. I was told that posts from Open Jam and the Political Forum would not be migrated over, but was not told anything about posts from Cool Jam not being ported over so I don't know if there has been an error, or whether they just neglected to tell me.

I'll ask whether those posts are sitting around in the ether somewhere, and just haven't been linked to the forum.

There are now eight music videos posted on my YouTube channel, including a cover of "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," which joins "Little Pieces", "Black Market Daydreams," and "When the Grid Goes Down" (complete with disturbing video )

Is there any way we can make the text darker? Some of us a little more sight impaired might appreciate that. Would really rather not have to darken my own texts.

Unless that announcements block at the top of the page is going away very soon, the breadcrumbs (i.e. Harmony Central > Gear Forums > General Forums > ...") ought to be below the announcements.

Re: We Want to Hear What You Think About the New Design

The subject collumn when viewing threads is way too narrow. Seriously, a line break every 3-4 words is not a comfortable or natural way of reading text. It needs to be doubled in width, minimum.

Eye strain.

Re: We Want to Hear What You Think About the New Design

[ Edited ]

First, the deal-breaker if it's not fixed:

  • The edit window only displays about 70% of the line width or so. And that forces horizontal scroll bars. And that makes it impossible to see a whole line at one time. It's simply not workable. Unusable. (Happens in stock Firefox and Chrome, no matter how text/zoom is set.)
  • In such cases, hitting the home key only takes you to the left edge of the window -- NOT the beginning of the line.

Other items:

  • another super-drag: when you create a new post, you are taken back to the first post in the thread! My post appears on page 12 but I'm deposited back on page one!
  • default font shade is too light a gray, not enough contrast, induces eyestrain/fatigue -- can't even see an apostraphe in 100% text size without squinting hard
  • does not allow browser spell check to work in Firefox or Chrome
  • built-in spellcheck is very poor, dictionary flags common words like blog and Firefox; flagging is not automatic but must be manually invoked
  •  forces you to re log in while using the site, despite checking 'keep me logged in'
  • lack of ability to edit/ammend old posts will take some getting used to for folks -- and a visual timer for the window of editiability as some sites have would be nice... at the very least you should tell people how long they have for an edit window. Also, I REALLY hope that if the time-out on editability comes when you are editing a post that it allows you to SAVE those changes. I guarantee you, people will see bloody red if they've put 7 or 8 minutes into fixing some involved post only to have their changes lost if the 'edit-window' closed on them while they were working.
  • the bold is barely distinguishable from the main font (which is uncomfortably light, as I believe I mentioned)

Also, I'm a moderator but I have no access to moderation tools [fixed = ) ]

One nice thing: WYSIWYG rich text editing works in Chrome. (It only worked in Firefox on the old system.)

And, though, I don't much care for the word, kudos -- I do like the basic +1/thumbs up feature. It's a good, quick way of showing assent without adding to the clutter.Good that it reveals who 'kudoed' it, too.

As Craig notes below you can change font color/size options, but hey appear to return to default after every edit. I used the font-color to darken this and I think it works better than the default.

I suspect there will be more issues as I continue to try to use the new site.

You are correct, CJ lives! But it's a layer deep in the menu - less convenient to get to.

My John Lee Hooker avatar dissapeard, and would look like **bleep** in the new tiny avatar space anyway. Avatars were fun, Anderston - they  said something! But now they all look the same - tiny god only knows what. And I really really hate the auto return that lets lines run beyond the edge of the text box.

Also, the very convenient drop down forum menu at the lower right of the old system is no longer there. Bring it back!

When I post, please make it go to my posted post!

NOTE: The absence of smilies in this post should not be taken to mean that I think your post is stupid, nor that I loath, despise, or hate you; nor that I disrespect you and all your works; nor that I see you as victim or lawful prey; nor think you have the intellect of half a loaf of bread; nor that I find you disgusting or unworthy or otherwise hate your behavior, opinions, politics, gender, sexual orientation, culture, ethnic background or language.

Re: We Want to Hear What You Think About the New Design

There really needs to be a page like the old forum overview page- one page with forum categories AND subforums ALL visible. As a new user to any forum this is one of the first things I looks for, and if there is one I can't find it.

Re: We Want to Hear What You Think About the New Design

Many of the complaints are due to defaults, not inherent problems.

You can change the font size in settings. I use large.

To eliminate the sidebars, hold Ctrl and use the mouse scroll wheel to adjust the width.

That works in Chrome and Firefox -- it zooms the whole page and pushes the sidebars off screen. Happily, the page is responsive enough to stay centered.  But not if you have Firefox set to zoom text only -- the usual preferred setting for those with vision issues, since they often need to zoom the font so large a full line can't be shown if you zoom the whole page.

Re: We Want to Hear What You Think About the New Design

Nasty poo-poo you need to fix:

The forum is aesthetically unpleasant.  Looks like baby's first wordpress.

The side panels with the lame-looking band need to go away in favor of more reading/writing space.

Enable YouTube embedding.

Don't make me click again to see where I posted in a thread.

Making quick reply with quote easy.

Get rid of the **bleep** **bleep**-bucket **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** **bleep** auto censor.  Or at least, turn down the nanny dial so mild swears like **bleep**, **bleep**, **bleep**, etc. isn't bleeped.

Scroll bars in post windows suck.

Let me edit.

That changes the font size too.  Sure it gets rid of the bars, but then you have characters half an inch high on the screen.  That's not a workaround..

Is there a way to turn off all pictures and avatars?  My workplace has a fairly liberal internet policy, but one **bleep** bomb or questionable avatar and I'm sure you'll be blacklisted.
