Re: User reviews

The more I ponder this issue and the more I read up on it, I cannot believe that the original user reviews from years ago are lost forever.  The data must be preserved somewhere, and to have those valuable opinions restored to the site would do a lot to restore the credibility of Harmony Central.  This was obviously important to a lot of people, and I remember when 2.0 took over, and all the uproar over losing those reviews.  I had several in there as did many of the loyal users of the site.  Find them, and start to regain some trust.

Having said that, to say that you have no idea what the new version will look lilke leaves me wonderinig "Who's in charge here?"

The site design was basically presented to the editorial staff and moderators as a fait accompli. I assume part of this was because the previous site performance was so bad the introduction had to be pushed up, but in any event, I had virtually no say in the site design. I'm in charge of content, but not the container for the content.

As to reviews. I still don't have an answer as to when any of the review elements will appear. I would think it's a fairly simple matter just to turn on the pro review forums and put article-based reviews in a blog until there's a more permanent solution, but I really don't know the intricacies of IT. What I DO know is that apparently, porting over the user reviews that were in the Jive format is a nightmare.

Craig/Phil...I really feel for you....as the visible components of this site, you have crap dumped on you at all hours and from all angles. The average reader here probably thinks you run the place. And they are wrong.

As to user reviews format, I still cannot believe that a pre-2,0 copy of the user reviews was not saved. This is the most BASIC of IT functions (backup and data recovery). The assertion that Jive was somehow able to make the old database unreadable via their conversion is laughable, at best. No one....and I mean NO ONE who does data-conversion destroys the original copy during a translation. That original is around somewhere. I think someone just doesn't want it found.

I'm not even sure Jive tried to convert the 1.0 reviews. My understanding (again, remember I'm no IT guy) was that Scott and Wilson set it up as software they created themselves, and Jive couldn't figure out what to do with it.

Lithium won't give up on getting the 2.0 user reviews into the new site, but they're really pulling their hair out trying to deal with it. As to the 1.0 reviews, I would LOVE to see them return, but I don't have much hope given the history.

There are now eight music videos posted on my YouTube channel, including a cover of "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," which joins "Little Pieces", "Black Market Daydreams," and "When the Grid Goes Down" (complete with disturbing video )

I keep thinking (hoping) the same thing.

Re: User reviews

Craig, I appreciate the fact that you hang in there and deal with all the complaints that have come your way over the past few weeks.  I know that I have added to them.  I also realize that your control in this situation is limited.

I will continue to hope for the return of the user reviews and (gasp) that someone will be able to get the 1.0 reviews back on (Again, I liked that format much bett than 2.0).

Keep  up the good work.

Re: User reviews

What a shame to lose, possibly forever, as apparently is the case with HC 1.0, the extensive library of "User Reviews."  To my knowledge it was unique to this site; I referred to it many many times.  This loss certainly diminishes the usefulness of this site by a great deal.  Without the User Reviews, this site, as wonderful as the Forums are, becomes just one of a multitude of music based sites.

HC owner(s), moderators, developers - please do whatever it takes to resurrect ALL of the User Reviews - make your site relevant again.

WHY would anyone want to f@#k up such a good thing?

If the reviews return, I will too.

Till then, you're DEAD to me.

Re: User reviews

Somebody clue me in.  I thought the 1.0 reviews were lost in the 2.0 debacle.  I remember them going from being tab simple to a mousy click-fest.to navigate thanks to Jive, and att that point I figured they were toast and never looked back.  Have they been working at least somewhat these past three years?   TIA

Re: User reviews

There was some access to user reviews in the last NEW Harmony Central, but not as easy to get to as the first version.  The user reviews were the only thing I came to harmony central for.  Good Bye

The plausible explain is it was all organized in top secret Area 51 script and unportable. Somebody - Anderton?  said that here I think. I'm just doing my part to maintaing the trickle.

hm....just Spreadin' The Word, eh?

I smell a site-troll. The average new-user wouldn't post his first 3 in this sub-forum.

For me, the very worst part is:

NOT HAVING AN EXPECTED TIMELINE FOR DELIVERY OF ANY IMPROVEMENTS!

This subforum, and it's necrotic twin "Site Updates" could have been used as a helpful tool to set the expectations of the community as to what was going to be changed, and when those changes can be expected. Instead, the lack of organized, two-way communication has resulted in the creation of the software equivalent of a slaughterhouse killing floor.

I continue to urge the folks at GC/Lithium to send a clear, cogent, reasonably-scheduled list of improvements that the Users have asked for, and when we can expect to see them implemented. We, the User's are the only true customers this site has. Giving us NOTHING but "we're working hard" is not acceptable. Just think of it like this really WAS a customer-service site....where does the current model of NON-interaction fit on the Customer Service continuum? ANS: At the utmost BOTTOM RANK, that's where.

I know that the Mods are trying to give us what they can, but what we really need, and deserve, is a proper list and a schedule. Period.

Hay Laz, how's it going? ...my long response is obviously typed to the Corporate Deaf Ears, not you....it's just that your message seemed like a good jump-off point. Thanks.
