tele loaded pickguard swap

I really like the mex fender pickups in my other guitar and I've been looking around for some to put in a squire std tele I have. I know squires are sometimes off with where things are drilled and was hoping you guys might know if this would fit without modification before I purchased it.

Re: tele loaded pickguard swap

Buy the kit for $75 but just use the pickups with your existing bridge and pickguard. If the control plate does not fit well, then use the contols with your existing plate.

Re: tele loaded pickguard swap

should I just buy pickups at that point then. How much better is the wiring on the mex stuff? I bought this squire to mod but I dont want to waste money on extra stuff.

Re: tele loaded pickguard swap

I don't think $75 is a lot for a set of tele pickups when it includes the switch and volume/tone controls. You may want to look for the pickups only if you can get them cheaper.

As for the screw holes lining up, I don't care about that on my guitars, I just make new holes if I have to.

I put Fender vintage noiseless pick ups in a Chinese Squire and they "almost" fit.The bridge plate was a little too snug so I had to open it up a little to give the pick up clearance also the holes did not line up perfectly but I think they were close enough to work. Also mine was an Affinity Series so it had 500k pots that did not work out so I went to 250k which did not fit either,I had to ream out the control plate so they would work and I also ended up changing the knobs as they no longer fit, in the end I got the results I wanted but more work than I expected.

The kit looks good but is yours a string thru or a top loader?  Check out the saddle height . Mine has long screws in the saddles because it is a top loader. I ordered a bridge plate for mine to convert it to a string thru but the holes for the plate did not line up.

I know was is a lot of work on a cheap guitar but it was a gift from my wife so whatever it takes is worth it.

Re: tele loaded pickguard swap

yeah mine in a string though squire the affinity is the top loader. I know the control plate on these is supposto be larger so swapping pickguards and pickups is a pain but thats why I was considering a kit to just replace everything. My concern is I dont want to drill into the body...

Re: tele loaded pickguard swap

Like I said, the bridge plate for mine almost fit so I didn't use it. The control plate was close enough that I used it as is,works good I took out the 3-way switch and put in a blend pot. Now I'm happy with it.DSC02391.JPG
