This question has been nagging me for a few days now. VH's new album is due in August and will be their first since VH III. I remember in a interview the interviewer asked him about a solo record and Eddie replied "You only do a solo record, if you can't do it in a band and I'm happy working with my band". I understand where he is getting at but with his recent arguments/behaviour maybe he would be better off on his own?
The chemistry with the band is in pieces and Eddie and David Lee Roth seem to be the cause of it, not to mention the Micheal Anthony dilema.
I am a fan of EVH but I am wondering, would everyone benefit from a little time out, and Eddie have a little time to himself?

IMO, guys like Satriani and Vai have to do it. They are compelled to create whether we buy their albums or not. I don't think EVH is like that. Left to his own devices he'll just keep doing whatever it is he did to his teeth.
Also, listen to Surfing with the Alien or Passion and Warfare. Do you honestly think EVH could do that? It's not just repeating a bunch of cool riffs and off the cuff solos - those are albums full of instrumental songs.
Anyway, I am a huge fan and wish nothing more than for EVH to crank out a killer solo instrumental album. But what the f do I know? I get all my info from Hagar's latest book and guitar mags.

I could not disagree with you more.
Surfing with the Alien filled with instrumental "songs"? Seriously? I was 19 the first time I heard that tape, and even at that age, it was obvious it was mostly just a bunch of boring progressions deliberately arranged to facilitate certain soloing shapes. I played bass at the time and was looking forward to buying the tape, thinking that such an accomplished musician would assemble an equally accomplished rhythm section to produce the best quality music possible. Nope. Solos over rhythm tracks.
