I have read it and I agree. It seems improved each time I log in.

Would love to have the old facility to see who is veiwing at any time. Really miss that.

It is people that make a forum though. If we still have the right mix I will stay, independent of platform really.

I checked Wein's site last night. There were only 3 posts to the guitar section all day. Lots of familiar names but not much activity.

I can tell you where NOT to go, ultimate-guitar.  They actually have some decent tabs over there but the forum seems to be populated by extremely immature individuals.  I tried posting there when HC was experiencing blackout.  I believe it's the worst guitar forum on the web.

I've been posting over at TGP for years.  Many people at HC have characterized TGP as cork sniffers.  Yes, they certainly do have that element over there but it's really a mix of players.  There are more pros and semi-pros posting over there than any forum I've ever visited.  There is a lot of depth and diversity in that pool of talent.  Also, they have tons of people who market their products over there, similar to here but more of them.

They don't tolerate HC type of trolling over at TGP.  Also, you're expected to stay on topic or your thread will be moved. Obvious copycat, spoof or nonsense threads are not allowed.  The style of moderation is much more agressive than here.  When things get argumentative and personal, threads get locked, people get warned and some violators get banned.  They expect you to keep all disagreements professional.  But, plenty of threads get very heated and flaming breaks out from time to time.

I've always tried to be polite on TGP and have never had any trouble with the mods.  I've found it to be one of the best resouces for detailed gear information around.  And, I like the fact that it has a different dynamic than HC.

I sure hope HC comes back.  This place has a unique dynamic that is humorous and entertaining in a way that TGP will never be.

I don't give a d.a.m.n about hypes, fanclubs or tonal religions. All I care about is what works for me.

I have faith that this platform will be modified in a way...

I have faith that this platform will be modified in a way that will be satisfactory to most.  I don't find it that horrible anyway.  Far bigger problems in the world than a guitar forum's design aesthetic.

Knowledge is not wisdom
Wisdom is not truth
Truth is not beauty
Beauty is not love
Love is not music.

I'm not posting on HC much with the new format, but I will check back periodically to see how it looks once they have all the tweaking done. I'd hate to see the place fade away, so I'm hopeful they can get it into a format everyone likes. I'm not going to spam anything, but I spend my time at another forum listed in this thread (I'm a mod there, so details might be considered spam). I've been on both boards, and I am now mostly 'over there'.

Hopefully, in a month, this place will be back to normal with a full compliment of posters.

There's a guitars section. It would be great to have more members.

I just registered and spent some time over there.  Looks like the best HCAF folks are there.  It definitely has the HC vibe without the IT issues.  Seems promising so far.

Re: When this forum dies, where should I go?

Ok, look I always try to stay away from negative type threads because I am living a good life and don't feel like arguing or being negative.  I do have to chime in finally about the forums because I think some of this complaining is total nonsense.  The old forum had trouble and pretty much **bleep** the bed. Ok so lots of craziness there, I can undrstand that but.  Then came this new forum.  Really it's ok I like how easy it is to load a picture from your own computer and to be honest I could care less about the way it looks.  I come here for knowledge and to learn about all kinds of stuff I didn't know about all kinds of gutiars and accessories.  I also like the the people and the sometimes funny stuff that goes on here.  It is very relaxed and nice to read, watch demos and listen to others playing and such.  This is why I just can't understand why people are leaving!  And it's over looks and some really minor problems.  What do you do when you get a guitar your not totally on board with?  Mod it! Modding it takes time especially changing the finish, but you don't just throw it away and curse on it.  Look at Vintageclubbers First Act turd, it was junk but he made it into medium level JC Penny jewlery! Same principle here folks.   The people make the forum not the fact you can't swear, who needs that anyway.  I know I have not been the most active HC'er and have not posted videos or sound clips, or even given a lot of information out, but I dont have to much time and I don't have recording gear.  I have however been playing 22 years and will try in the future to make more contributions to HC.  I'll interact with any guitar player here big name or not because everyone has something to offer even if its how to get the Slash tone, brah.

Les Paul custom, Antique white, 1996 Strat deluxe, Schecter TSH-1, Squire standard Strat, Dearmond M65-C

I don't get all bent about this stuff. But I can't stand the way this forum looks and the usability of it. I also like the way people think that there is a team furiously coding to fix the problems here. It would take minutes to fix some of these problems.

I'm still holding out hope that this forum will improve. I have checked out other forums and HC still has the best group of people. If they can fix the look and some of the functionality issues ( especially from the iPad ) I'll stick around.

Re: When this forum dies, where should I go?

Things are looking better here every day.  The column width issue has changed so that a subject now fits on 1 line instead of 4.  I had fixed that with a Firefox add-on, but it is now fixed in stock IE.

Awesome.

I haven't seen the changes on a PC, yet. I'm on my Android tablet (full site) and it looks roughly the same to me, but it always looked better on the tablet than on a PC.

It actually works well with the mobile skin but they still need to fix the quotes and pic posting. As far as I can tell there is no way to post pics from an iPhone.
I have a ton of updates on my build thread but I can't post to it. :smileysurprised:

I blame Apple. :smileylol:

Last night I discovered why everybody with an iPhone has the same ringtones. Adding a custom ringtone is RETARDED. No matter what I did to my wife's iPhone I could not get her custom ringer to work. On my Android phones it's easy peasy.

So... Yeah... Apple's fault. LOL
