What's your "guilty pleasure" guitar make/model?

Keeping this on topic and appropriate for general audiences...

what particular brand or model guitar that you really admire/appreciate/covet/etc. that you keep "on the down-low"?

for me, it's the Ibanez super-strat type RG or Saber or Radius series.  I also really have this weird spot in my heart for the Jem, Universe and JS series.  all of these models really do fly in the face of what I tend to look for in a guitar (hard-tail or vintage-style trem, thick neck carve, decidedly traditional look/feel, etc.).  still, i get that little pitter-patter in my heart when i see an Ibanez rootbeer Jem or something with pyramid inlays.  and if it's a custom series graphics?  well, look out... i'm smitten.

OK.  enough of my "perversion".  how about you?  what is that one guitar brand or model that has you by the heart-strings in the privacy of your own room?

Re: What's your "guilty pleasure" guitar make/model?

I should get you and my friend Jeff together. He's the best guitarist I personally know, and I know quite a few. He loves his Ibanez Jem, and I tease him about it incessantly. It was his main axe for quite a while, but lately he's moved on to the Moog Paul Vo guitar.

Lately, my guilty pleasure has been old Kay and Harmony guitars. I know it's a hipster thing to like, but there are some really cool designs, and they're fun to play. Some are well-made, some not so much.

that could be a dangerous friend-connection.  i don't think i'd ever own a Jem; i'd be too self-aware to enjoy any performance i had with that thing strapped to me.  but damnit if i don't click on every for-sale ad involving something Ibanez from the 80s or 90s.  and i'm not even much beyond a casual fan of steve vai.  go figure...

The original line of BC Rich guitars, from the late 70's or early 80's whenever it was.
The 10 string Bich,Mockingbirds and Eagles .
Don't really know why for sure,I think I associate them with first guitars I noticed that had highly figured wood.

Re: What's your "guilty pleasure" guitar make/model?

Well if I understand the concept, I'm a big fan of MIM Fender Squier Series guitars which are somewhat hit or miss I suppose but the two I have are just righteous Blue Collar Strats that after a couple mods have all the greasy tonez one could ever hope for in a Strat.  I like most of the offset solid-bodies produced by Harmony or Silvertone from the 60's (still own my H-19 and miss a Silvertone Silhouette I foolishly sold), just the old MIA stuff - well hold on, I do own a recent Silvertone Acoustic which is my campfire pass around git.  Recently discovered Aria Pro II with a Craigslist purchase of a Bobcat from the 80's.  It was cheap sordid love but I can't keep my hands off cause this baby has the surf tone I've been lusting after.  Old Ibanez Roadstars also intrigue me and may be my next fling.

The artist formerly known as fretmonster.
And no I don't toss other people's guitars. And yes I do give autographs.....as if......

More than enough guitars and amps, not nearly enough time or talent.

My tastes generally lean towards the classic Gibson/Fender/Gretsch guitars, but I've always been a fan and wanted something entirely 80's hair metal like a ESP George Lynch or a Jackson PC1.

Re: What's your "guilty pleasure" guitar make/model?

I'm not a fan of the necks and the price tag scares me off, but my guilty pleasure is a Gretsch White or Black Falcon with a Bigsby.  There's something so 50's cool about those guitars.

Gretsch White Falcon

The Jackson PC-1 is my other guilty pleasure, despite the fact that (a) I hate Floyd Roses, (b) I've never liked Def Leppard and (c) the price tag scares me off.  However, it annoys me no end that the neck on the production model isn't as fat as on Phil's personal instruments.  I prefer a beefy neck.

Re: What's your "guilty pleasure" guitar make/model?

The guy who got me into guitars back in the 70's had what I have always connsidered THE guitar. It was  about a 1948 Martin D-18.

So for me it is Vintage D-18's

I just can't bring myself to pay for one.

They get made fun of a lot for whatever reason, but the Epi Wildkat is way cool in my eyes.

For what I have, my old silver tone archtop is just a blast to play.

None, honesty.  I liked my beat up old tele, I like my friend's JEM (he had it refretted with stainless steel frets and it's awesome), I like my Suhr, I like my acoustics...  If I like it, I like it and I don't feel the need to 'hide' it.  It's just a guitar.  My tastes are pretty eclictic, though.  There are certainly guitars I'm not a fan of, but I don't secretly pine to play them in my room...

I played an Epi Wildkat in a store a long time ago and really dug that guitar.  Didn't end up buying it, but I thought it was very cool and a great deal for the price.

I don't really have a "guilty pleasure" guitar, but I have a Radius! It's an '88, bought it new, and it was my #1 from '88 to '96, when I bought my Carvin.

TNM Joe Maphis Model Doubleneck with 6 on a side tuners. I love the looks and remember seeing Joe and Larry Collins with these type of guitars in the 60's. I really don't know what i'ld do with that octave neck though.

If I had this I would rock it the rest of my life in my practice room.

Would never play it in public though :smileyhappy:

I'll admit that I've got a thing for garish, bright, and sometimes neon-colored guitars, like Vai's Green Meanie and the neon Ibanezes.
