Re: What do Explorers sound like?

They sound like "Land Ho!" or an agressive midrange LP!

Re: What do Explorers sound like?

I have talked to guys who like them for the way that they balance while standing. One of these guys was in a band in which I played drums. His guitar sounded pretty much like a Les Paul. It was full, with plenty of punch.

Explorers sound a 24.75" scale guitar with two humbuckers.

Re: What do Explorers sound like?

With active EMG's, a floating trem, ebony board, and who knows what for body wood, it sounds like... uh, a high output shred machine:

Btw - that's not a ZZ, it's a Custom Z with bound set neck - though otherwise it feels a lot like my old ZZ Custom, which feels nothing like a Gibson Explorer - not their traditional stop tail one at least.

I don't know why you assume I want to buy a guitar. I'm just trying to find people's opinions on gear that I have little/no experience with. You are being an HC nazi.

Going to pick mine up from my buddy who refinished my 85 Custom Shop tomorrow! I hope to have it done in a couple of days and get a pic posted of before and after.

Re: What do Explorers sound like?

They sound very nice but are huge. Jabs from the Scorpions has his custom made so the body is a bit smaller.

Re: What do Explorers sound like?

My Epi sounds both crunchy and twangy!

I like the shape. Its way more comfy than it looks. Balances well sitting or standing, no heavier than most LPs.
The big upper bout kinda tucks under your arm like you old favorite acoustic.
The biggest drawback is the humongous case.

Re: What do Explorers sound like?

Had an ESP FX, their take on the explorer. I thought it was a great guitar to play sitting down, sounded great, but the neck was just too small for me, so I sold it.

Well, of course I bought guitars that are better than I am! I need something to grow into, right?

Re: What do Explorers sound like?

I prefer the Maple topped Hamer Standard & The '79-'81 Dean Z. They have amazing sustain. They really sing. A great Blues & Rock tone.
