Who says shred guitarists influenced by EVH cant/dont have soul? Who gets to determine whether a player is soulful or not? Music is subjective, we are all gonna have different ideas re: what is good or bad or mindless wanking or technical brilliance.
If another flamethread re: who is good/not is how to shake things up i say stop shaking ffs.
Well, I'm sure some do. Point being though, too many non-feel shredders were born from EVH. Eddie, IMO, influenced a generation concerned more about speed and technique rather than feel and melody.

BydoEmpire wrote:No soul? I don't agree with that at all. EYngwie's "Rising Force" is a very passionate, soulful album. I'm sorry if you can't hear it, but it's there. He squeezes notes out. Vai has some wacky stuff, but he also has some really soulful ballads. Sure, there are lots of "bad" shredders - for lack of a better word - but there are also bad blues players, bad country players, bad rock players, bad jazz players... Lots of people complain about "white" blues guys or guys "just playing a bunch of pentatonic licks," but it's really just people who aren't that good at the genre.
Not everyone has to like every genre, that's personal taste, but the whole "music XYZ has soul" doesn't make much sense to me. People who are really great at what they do - regardless of genre - are passionate about it.
Unfortunately, accuracy and speed leads a non-player to think someone has the shit, when in fact, their shit usually stinks. Lots of shredders have feel and soul but for the most part, are merely technically sound and as a result, recognized as players when in fact they play like a computer. IMO of course.

You are supposed to disagree with me and get angry (shake things up).
Even if you don't mean it.

There are only 3 Rock guitar players who changed our perception of the instrument.
1. Chuck Berry - He invented how we play rock guitar. everyone still uses his licks and that rhythm boogie style he uses
2. Jimi Hendrix - He took feedback to infinity and beyond
3. Eddie Van Halen - There's guitar before EVH and then after. First time people heard eruption/You really got me there was an incredible WOW factor
Jimi Hendrix, though, is the greatest rock guitarist ever

No only the three I mentioned.
Many of the guitarist you list are great and made great contributions to rock guitar playing but not like:
Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen.
Again, as I wrote they changed our "perception"

How's this; When you get SERIOUS about your guitar playing and really want to express yourself with nuance and soul, ditch your cheap copies, save up and buy a Gibson, Fender or PRS. Otherwise you're not serious or just kidding yourself.
