so you can post "this place is sad" threads, but you can't post threads that contribute anything positive because the platform doesn't support iPad use?
When you can't quote, can't post a pic, and can't post a video, it kinda limits what you can do, yeah. Every other forum on the net seems to support ios. Why cant this one? i thought this software was the latest and greatest?
Besides, I started quite a few fun threads after the changeover. Crickets, just like all the other threads.
Yes, I'm posting a Debbie downer thread because what hc did to this place IS sad. For you to defend them is even more so.
I've been an active member here going on five years and I've hung with it through every fuckup they've created. Technical stuff is no biggie. You can get through it. What really irks me is the complete lack of respect shown to the users by the management. One big "fuck you" after another.
you sure do have a flair for the dramatic, EG. this place doesn't owe either of us a thing, so stop acting like it does. you're lashing out like a bitter child.
i'm not defending the "powers that be" at harmony central or the way the latest upgrade has been handled (or any upgrade before it); it is, what it is. i accept it for what it is, but also recognize that it can be better. so i try to do what i can to make it better.
the lack of iOS support is a bummer, for sure. i don't use an iPad or iOS to access this site, so i'm not filled with the same rage that apparently consumes and saddens you. if you want to disappear from here until they provide support for iOS, i'm sure someone here would volunteer to PM you (or find you over at Wein's) so you can come back and post whatever light-hearted nonsense you want.
the site looks and acts adequately for me on my Mac at home and my Droid phone when i access "on the go". i appreciate the stability of the site now. the weeks leading up to the upgrade were terrible. i like the upload function for pictures.
but above all else, i'm here for the content and the community. it's relatively quiet here now, but it will be better over time. if i can help accelerate that in order to improve both content and community, then i will.

anyone think they're trying to kill it so they don't have to support it anymore? so they can just say, `ah, you know, the traffic just got so slow it wasn't economical to support anymore.'
If that was the case, why not just pull the plug or sell it off? It doesn't make sense to kill it slowly. If there's no business case to keep it going, what's the point of going to all the trouble of a new back end?
Forums seem to be a thing of the past. You can blame social media for that one.

This is my first post since the 3.0 changeover. I was formerly, "headless", and I've been a member for about 10 years. I probably could get my original user name back, but I tried once and it didn't work, so I figure I'll just re-invent myself.
To the topic, I haven't posted much in the last year, and one of the reasons is the lack of turn-over on the front-page. This was happening way before the 3.0 change-over. I figured that with the economic down-turn, there are fewer guys sitting in front of their work computers, posting to HCEG, and if they are lucky enough to have a job, they don't want to risk it by goofing-off. When you're concerned with paying the rent, HCEG forum seems a bit trivial.
The 2.0 change-over attempt did do some damage, but I feel that the economy has done more. Perhaps some sort of rewards plan inwhich members are invited back might get people back in the habit of checking the forum, especially as the econmy improves ("if", it improves).
It's a bit of a self-reinforcing cycle: Nobody comes here, if nobody comes here. But if people come here, then people will come here.

I posted quite a bit on the old forum, although even before the changeover I had decided I was spending too much time on guitar forums and the internet in general and cut back quite a bit.
I've now started to post a little on a couple of other forums, mainly because turnover here is so low. There are posts from a week ago on the first page.
I actually bought and sold a few bits of gear in the eurospam threads, but that has died completely..
GreatDane is right in that we don't pay for the service, it doesn't owe us anything, and after all "if you don't pay for it, you're not the customer, you're the product", but at the same time I can't see anyone making a huge amount of advertising revenue from the site now that no-one visits it.
It looks like the majority of folk have moved on anyway. I've seen a few familiar names posting over at the gear page, a couple of the UK'ers on the musicradar forums, and of course the amps guys have started their own forum (not that you could pay me to post there).
Guitar jam has basically turned into Jimmy James' and Gennations twitter feed, amps is dead, and here isnt that far behind.
I have to say though EG remains probably the best sub-forum on the site, but it's not a very high standard at the moment. I can't think of anything that would work to bring the old posters back at this point.

Sometimes, when I'm here, I wonder if I'm dead but don't know it...like those ghosts in The Sixth Sense. "I see dead people."

I apologize for my lack of tact on this forum. Like anybody, I'm still growing as a person. I see negative comments and it kind of rubs me wrong.
I'll try to do better at being the change that I want to see.

people need to understand that if a community is doing well, don't fuck with it. dramatic changes to the user experience can have adverse effects. don't fuck with it.
Yes, but the old forum was simply broken and it didn't make any sense to keep putting bandaids on it. From an IT standpoint this forum makes total sense. Instead of keeping a server running at the home office or at a collocation center they now have the entire shebang hosted and maintained by Lithium.

they should have taken more steps to keep the user experience more even. people don't like change, especially old farts in a guitar forum.
That was the original plan, but then the old forum dropped a giant deuce.
Think of it this way... In Star Trek: The Motion Picture, the Enterprise was in the midst of its refit. It was almost ready, but not quite. When V'ger was inbound on Earth , the Enterprise was the only ship available to intercept. However, the warp engines weren't quite right and threw the ship into a wormhole. It took Spock returning to the Enterprise to help Scotty set the engines straight.
That's kinda what happened here. Spock's still working on the forum.

This site is practically worthless without the reviews! If I want forums, there are thousands of other sites dedicated to that purpose. Let me know when the reviews are back up- I won't be back until then. Ridiculous that they chose to leave the best part of the site for last!
