The Edge and Epiphone Casino?

I was just watching Late Night With Conan O'Brian, and it looked like the Edge was playing an Epiphone Casino. Is that a guitar he normally uses, or is this something special? Sounded pretty good to me.

I wasn't sure either, but it definitely looked like a Casino, and I am pretty sure it had the little Epiphone logo on the pickguard.

I was wondering if maybe this had something to do with the Music Rising thing (I came across something mentioning that Gibson was doing a special Music Rising Epiphone Casino, so maybe that would explain why the Edge was playing it).

Re: The Edge and Epiphone Casino?

I saw the show too just now. Definitely an Epi Casino. Says so on the pickguard and headstock IIRC. Yeah, nice tone but that's all from his pedals I think.

Re: The Edge and Epiphone Casino?

It was a casino but in the song I saw it hardly sounds like a guitar. Closer to a synth thanks to all the effects I guess.

Uh, and just what's wrong with an Epi Casino? Mr. Lennon seemed to do alright with one.

Even the ones made today are pretty nice.

Edge doesn't strike me as the kind to play cheap knockoffs :smileywink:

knock offs???

well sort of, they were modeled after Gibson ES-330's

but they're great guitars in their own right, and the ones made before 68 were made in the USA!

Re: The Edge and Epiphone Casino?

He used it for a couple of songs on their latest album. And no, it's not a knock-off. It's a vintage guitar from before Gibson bought the brand and turned it into their budget line.

I know he used it on All Because Of You. I can't remember which other songs got the Epi treatment.

Unlikely!

Gibson bought Epiphone in 1957. The first Casino's came out in 1961.

Oh well. I didn't know that. But it's still a vintage guitar so I believe it was made in US unlike today's more budget minded Epiphones.

Maybe I'm wrong, though...

Wow.  Nothing personal, but the above exhibits total ignorance of the history of Epiphone generally and the Casino in particular.

Fail.

Your implication that a Casino wouldn't be played by a pro guitarist who has his pick of guitars is demonstrably false.
