and
How I got stuck playing the guitar. FOR LIFE.
These actually aren't posted on my forum...I'm trying a new wordpress blog.

Very cool Mark. Ive been following a lot of your posts and have modeled my private guitar lesson off of some things you have mentioned (21 students per week, im 21 and a full time uni student). Great blogs, acted as motivation for me to start my own

Thanks Josh!
It sounds like you're on the right track...are you majoring in music or teaching guitar as a sideline?

I am Majoring in Eng Lit. Original idea was to become a school teacher but recently I have decided I want to open a music school in 5-10 years. Done school this semester then I will begin teaching more students(full time). I do in-home guitar lessons and have gained most of my business through word of mouth.
Also in 2012 I played upwards of 100 cover shows so the income is comin from music entirely at this point.
Lookin forward to more blog posts

As I was reading your Midlife Crisis blog and got to the part about Western Swing and Rockabilly I thought about Paul Pigat who was just here for the weekend doing his Cousin Harley thing and noticed you mentioned him. It was a full on 48 hour gig for me as I provided all the production for the two shows he did on island.
The guy is a monster player and very willing to share his talent, knowledge and love of the instrument. He covered a lot of ground and, as exciting as the rockabilly stuff was, I really enjoyed the jazzy western swing where he mellowed the sound of his Gretsch and played some lovely stuff.
I really like this bit from your blog
"And thats the thing…its a long life and “mastering” the guitar or learning and exploring music is not something that you’ll complete. And its something that you can always take a break from and come back to when you’re ready. The ride is through some pretty cool places."

Thanks!
Paul is a great guy and a killer player. We actually have him back in my studio on Saturday to do another clinic while he's in town. I learned a ton from him the last time he was here and I even bought one of his DVD's and stole a bunch of ideas from that too!

If you think of it, please pass on my "Greetings from Haida Gwaii." He'll know what you mean. My head is still filled with the melodic sounds of his Black Falcon - I really enjoyed working with him.
