Mapple vs mahogany in 335 stlyle guitar

Hello

What are the difference in a mapple body versus mahogany body in a 335 style guit? I just order a Godin Montréal, wich is made of mahogany, and ii am curious about the difference between it and the Gibson 335 mapple)of my bandmate.

There is up to 10 weeks of waiting before i receive it...

Beautiful guitar!

Well, normally for any instrument regardless of body style, maple is said to be brighter sounding while mahogany would be darker (mellower?). Is it a semi-hollow or full hollow?

P.S: Quel temps il fait à Montréal? :smileyhappy:

Il doit encore faire froid la bas... Ici a Edinburgh il fait 15 degres environs.

I say Mahogany. But I don't know much about maple, what tonal characteristics does it have?

Re: Mapple vs mahogany in 335 stlyle guitar

It's a semi-hollow body.

For info: http://www.godinguitars.com/godinmontrealp.htm

Il fait présentement,à 14h, 16oC à Montréal, et nous avons eu quelques journées en haut de 20oC dernièrement!!! Les jupes sont courtes sur l' ave Mont-Royal!!!

Snow is gone from Montreal from some time now...

I was looking for a Gibson 335 kind of guitar, and did want to give Godin(a Québec based company) a try. The problem is that presently, no music store have this model on the shelf, so i have to order it, and to try it after(i can always return it if not to my taste).

I ask questions about the wood, because there only one entry on the user databas on the guitare, althought i have learn much by looking at the Flat Five entry, wich is the model the Montreal is based from.

Re: Mapple vs mahogany in 335 stlyle guitar

The maple=bright, mahogany=dark only goes so far, and only really applies to solid body guitars. Some mahogany-top acoustics are actually fairly bright and mid-rangey.
