This is one ugly guitar! Looks like a squashed strat.
But is one nice player! It's a squier but made in Japan. Bound rosewood neck with lacquer. Fantastic pickups [single coil and humbucker] with matching headstock and the very cool Vista Series logo.
I love the simplicity of it too. Just one volume knob, no tone knob. It's simple but it rocks!
I have 2, black and surf green.
Regardless of what you think about Courtney, this is one fine guitar.

I am surprised they havent reissued them, either from the Fender Pawn Shop series,
or using the Squier brand.

I own a black Squier Venus -- the 6-string version.
Bought it at Mars Music (when they existed).

I've never played one, or even seen one in person. But I love the way they look.

Isince Kurt wrote her first record, I wouldn't be surprised if he designed her guitar too.

the Squier Venus XII was a beautiful looking and sounding guitar. I wish Squier would come out with a new 12-string.

Uhh... she didn't even know Kurt when she made her first record. I've never understood the hate Courtney gets. She's a pretty decent musician, and she was known long before she met Kurt. Yeah, she's a gigantic mess, and she seems like a bit of a bitch, but the same can be said about most musicians, especially the ones that have large fanbases.
I've always liked the Venus guitars, though. I've never played one, but they have a cool look to them.

my cl has had one for months priced at $750. seems a bit high. Id pay $400 all day. They do look cool and unique and the headstcok is nice

Not any more than Nevermind has Frank Black written all over it.

Touché.
Courtney Love aside, I liked the looks of the Venus line and they seemed like respectable players. I would have loved to have tried the 12-string but I could never find one. I think Fender highly overestimated Love's influence on getting young girls to play guitar, and no self-respecting misogynistic classic rocker would have given those guitars a second look.

My bandmate has the 12-string. It's actually a really cool sounding guitar. We used it for a song on our record and it came through very well. I was skeptical at first but it did the trick!

I have the 12 string. I bought it to strip it of parts and build a new body and neck for an Electric XII because the bridge, pickups, string retainer and tuners can be re-used.
When I got it I decided just to play it as is for a while. It's a nice guitar. These were not cheap new. They were about $800 street and listed at about a grand.

I threw up a little in my mouth when I thought of Courtney.
The guitars look cool especially the 12 string.

Looks appropriately ugly and akward imo...

The 6 string is a nice guitar, but not all that unique or special. It was relatively expensive at the time. That was back when they were trying to do higher priced Squires in the Vista and Pro-Tone lines.
The 12 on the other hand is the sleeper. Its the closest sounding thing they've done to a reissue of the Electric XII.

Great posts everyone! Glad to see there are some fans out there of the guitar.
I'm a fan of Courtney and that's why I got the guitar put was surprised as how much I liked it.
Too bad it didn't come in shell pink.
I also got a very beat up Musicmaster in the same Vista series [but now made in China] and it was in shell pink! It's actually a very decent guitar. One pickup that's called 'vista tone' I believe. Too lazy to pull it out and check.

Was there a Musicmaster? I don't remember that one. I remember the Venus, XII and the blue sparkle flipped over thing that was pretty cool.
Got a pic?
