Of all things that I don't get, I really don't get how the Epiphone headstock is considered ugly. Can someone explain this to me?

If anything's ugly, it's the Martin headstock.

Actually....... I'm not to fond of the Epi headstock myself...... but I still love their guitars... and enjoy and play mine often.

I'll take the ugly Epi headstock over the stubby Agile horn any day lol.

Epi headstocks are nice, classic styling. The HS i dislike are the Deans and the BC Rich Warlock style. Have to admit I liked both back in the 80s.

But really I don't get how Epiphone headstocks are ugly. More importantly, how is the Gibson headstock pretty?

I think on the les pauls and SGs it's very noticeable. But I have an epi ES-295 and you can't really overcome the flamboyance of the gold paint job and flowery pickguard with a couple extra inches of headstock.

The classic Epi headstock on the semi-hollows and acoustics is elegant in its simplicity. I don't really care for the extra scalloping on the LPs and SGs, but I'd rather have an Epi than a comparably priced copy.

Is it ugly in that it's not a Gibson, or is it actually ugly? That's the question I'm asking, and how is it ugly?

I understand why most 6 inline headstocks are ugly... it's because it either looks like an arrow or it looks like a penis, but 3+3 headstocks all pretty much seem to get a decent balance. When I hear about people saying Martin is simple and elegant, and Epiphone is ugly, I'm like dude, Martin has the headstock any idiot would make.

I just think it's not attractive because it's too large and has too many little curves. Too busy. (Keep in mind I love Epiphones and own quite a few).

I like a simple headstock. Now .... the Martin headstock is a little too simple LOL!

But the Gibson one is just right I think.

I actually like the Agile headstock..... but I hate their stubby horn on their LP copies.


Also ..... the Epi DOT headstock is too large and looks like a ball sack. (Keep in mind I have several DOTs and I love them).

I really don't like the G&L headstock at all.




When I look at it I think of an aardvark or an ant eater...... or Alice The Goon.....
