Hot or Not? January 28th

v

Ibanez George Benson GB-10

NeckThree Piece curly maple neck with bound ebony board; block mother of pearl markers with abalone parallelogram inserts. 24.75″ (626mm) scale length and 43mm (1.692″) nut width. 305mm (12″) fingerboard radius.
Frets22 medium frets in excellent condition with almost no wear.
BodyThe George Benson GB10 body is built with a arched spruce top, an arched
maple back, and maple sides. There are two substantial braces running the length of the top. Pickups are not mounted to the top. The top is fairly thick for feedback rejection; this guitar is designed and built to be played live and loud.
FinishGloss sunburst finish in excellent condition.
Hardware/electronicsTwo humbucking pickups, floating free of the top. The neck pickup attaches to the neck and the pickguard, while the bridge pickup attaches only to the pickguard. The pickup leads enter the guitar body via the treble F-hole; individual volume and tone controls, and the pickup selector, are mounted on the top. The output jack is on the lower side. Gold Gotoh tuners with faux pearl buttons. The tailpiece allows tension adjustment for treble and bass strings.

Re: Hot or Not? January 28th

[ Edited ]

I played one, unplugged, at NAMM a few years ago, it was a very very nice guitar. I remember being shocked at the price. I forget what it was exactly but I want to say it was in the $3000 range. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

My favorite feature is the adjustable two-piece tail piece. You turn the thumb screws to fine tune the break angle over the bridge separately for the low and high strings. So smart.

edit: Before someone else points it out: No, break angle doesn't change string tension, but it does make a noticeable, if subjective, difference in how stiff the string feels.

That's probably about right.  I remember them being about $1,800 twenty years ago.  I don't think they've always had mini humbuckers, tho.

Hot. But for that much money I'd buy a used Heritage instead.

Re: Hot or Not? January 28th

If anybody says that's not hot they are lying.

For that coin though, this would tempt me, I'd replace the pickguard and have it blank.
