Re: Guild Electrics are Back!

I just wish they would bring back the Peregrine. Best sealed acoustic/electric ever other than the legendary Alvarez Yairis.

Re: Guild Electrics are Back!

They're being built on more of the 335 platform. Compare with a "real" Guild from their golden days:DSC03649.jpgDSC03650.jpg

I'm excited. I'm in the market for a semi, and Guilds have always been of interest to me. I do with they brought back Hamer though. I had an early Hamer import, and besides the jack (didn't know how to replace at the time) it was an absolutely fantastic guitar, and I honestly don't know why I got rid of it.

I know: I own two Hamers and they're both amazing guitars.  It's such a shame FMIC shut the company down, but I remember guys in music stores saying how great Hamers were but customers were only interested in the Big Two.

Hi. Yeah, I'm back in somewhat diminished capacity. I'm liking the X175 & X175B models. But I have a big archtop already. I'm wondering about the overlap. They're tempting. The prices on these things are very reasonable.

Re: Guild Electrics are Back!

Don't think there will be all that big a fight between Guild and Gretsch since they are both owned by Fender. Seems to make sense, for Guilds go up against Gibson whereas Gretsch seems to have niche all it's own (if we skip Epi swingster stab at it).

One small concern has to do with woods. My '99 Starfire IV is made of maple, and new recreations uses mahogany. Different. Better or worse? you be the judge. Has seemed to drive up the price on the old ones.

Re: Guild Electrics are Back!

A friend generously loaned me what I assume is the current M75 hollow single cut model back in the 60s. It was a fine instrument that I'd love to play today. List price is over $7,000 though. More than I can part with.

Re: Guild Electrics are Back!

And, for all you Soundgarden fans, the S-100 Polara has also made a comeback. Surprisingly, they don't mention Kim Thayil in the promo literature.

Guild S-100

I can't decide whether or not I prefer the new "anti-hum" pickups or the 59/JB combo in the 1990's RI's.
