What controls would you have on a custom Small Stone?

i'm thinking of having one built, so looking for some ideas..

i definitely need dry/wet, plus a depth knob instead of a 2-way switch. other than that, i guess a volume would be useful.

maybe a high or low pass filter?

Re: What controls would you have on a custom Small Stone?

touché.

i tried one a while back.. was a bit much and didn't have the low end of the USA small stone, so that and the price (even of the 'Sibling') is making me think i'd rather get exactly what i want for the same price.

and god knows i've gone through enough phasers to know the USA small stone is it.

Re: What controls would you have on a custom Small Stone?

CV and Expression input so I can use the new 8 Step Sequencer with it :smileyvery-happy:

Also, like so many of the vintage EHX pedals with slide switches, it would be nice if the color switch was a stomp switch instead. I'd even prefer that over making it a pot with continuous control.

Re: What controls would you have on a custom Small Stone?

how about a resonance knob? imo a really important feature for customizing a phaser's tone

but yea, the whetstone is pretty damn cool, but has too many options and knobs/switches if anything

hmmm, doesn't the color switch change from 4 to 6 stages of phasing... would a depth knob have any real varience... or would it mix between both settings?

frankly I think the small stone is THE phaser... it might be nice to have a color switch changed to a stompswitch ... but unless you really get in there to add different waveshapes to select - it pretty much is the way it is

speed, depth, resonance, wet/dry, and a switch for 4 and 6 stage phasing. maybe add a three way switch, 4, 6, and 6 with ring mod speed. i don't know how hard it'd be to add, but I think what the small stone really needs is stereo phasing.

I haven't looked at the schematic in awhile, but if I remember right, it's always 4 stages. The color switch just feeds some of the circuit back to the input to change the resonance. Again, that's just off of memory though.

Re: What controls would you have on a custom Small Stone?

The Small Stone is pretty much perfect IMHO. I like my version 1 Ross Phaser more, but I'm not sure whether that's due to the sound or the fact that I'm more familiar with it from owning it years longer than my Small Stone.

blake, your ruetz knob on the rous seems like a good comparison to me for this color knob.

Stereo output, plus speed, Depth, Resonance, and Wet/Dry controls, plus an expression pedal input that you can assign to speed, depth, or resonance. The color switch can stay on a slide switch AFAIC.

I modded my old bad stone to have a footswitch instead a switch in the back. that was cool to have 2 on a big old box ehx pedal

Re: What controls would you have on a custom Small Stone?

this is going to sound like herecy, but I would love a small stone with... an on switch. I use basically one setting, so I would be fine with a circuit that has been fine tuned and fix'd for a nice slow deep phase, color switch down, slight (ever so slight) volume boost. then on/off is all I would need... and it would very rarely be off

full disclosure I already have a whetstone, so another many knob'd small stone is less appealing.
