Thanks for the number guys!
I just called him. He asked if I had any idea who took the pedal. I said no, but I suspect my neighbors. I also asked if he'd like the police number to call and get this straightened out with and he answered "no". I gave it to him anyway, and he asked if I had the serial number for the pedal, which I do, and then he hung up on me.

No, two packages were through USPS, the remaining through UPS. So I doubt it was carrier wrong-doing.
I just called the police, and gave them that phone number. I've traced it to a pawn shop in town.

Why ask if you know who stole it? Isn't that a "police" type question? Giving him the number to the police is good, but make sure you talk to the cops yourself, letting them know where the stolen goods are. Most likely, the pedal will then end up at the police, to be released to you once you've been established as the rightful owner (that's how it'd work here in Sweden, at least).

i sure hope the pawnshop has kept good record of who dropped it off along with photo/video security cam records. because now it is on them to get back their $40 or however much they bought this thing for.

It was a longshot, but worth a thought. Your hunch that it might be a neighbour seems more likely, though. That's a real bummer, not being able to trust the people you live next door to ![]()
Still, it sounds like this one will work out good in the end.

The seller just ended the item...maybe the police have already contacted him?
Is there no mandatory 30 day waiting period for pawn shops to sell items in North Dakota?
In any case, it's looking good for the OP, I'd say.
Yeah, the lack of any kind of police hold on it strikes me as a little weird. Here in California, everyone (except private parties) is required to hold used stuff for 30 days, and during that time, the serial number is supposed to be sent to the police so they can see if it's stolen or not before it gets resold.
I'd definitely make sure the police are involved. The pawn shop doesn't sound like they're too happy about it - probably because they'll be the one to take the loss if they can't get it back from the person who sold it to them. Seems like they'd have plenty of incentive to cooperate with the police on nailing the thief. Good luck - I hope it all works out for you!
