Satisfying Octave Fuzz sounds from Fuzz + POG?

I was thinking of getting a POG or Micro POG to use with my current fuzzes instead of getting a dedicated octave fuzz....what are your experiences combining the two? Good octave fuzz sounds? Or is it just better to get an octave fuzz?

[ Edited ]

up or down, chords or single notes?

micro pog with fuzz will be much more versatile but will also be more synthy sounding than a analogue octave fuzz. ... and within those there are massive differences... something like a tonemachine is octave up crazy and requires no effort to get the octave up sound on chords or leads, others you kind of have to coax the octave out with playing technique pickup selection etc.

I'm a big fan of the micro pog but it might not be what you want.

Also look into the Foxrox Octron, it cant do chords but sounds glorious on single notes and with fuzz.

Interesting....I keep coming back to the Octron, might be time to try one. I'm definitely looking to do organ-ish swell ambient stuff too though, so the Micro POG might be what I need.

One of my favorite sounds is POG into Big Muff. It sounds glorious....single notes sound better than chords to me. Playing stuff with Big Muff sounds great, but then I kick on the POG and it sounds huge. If you're looking to emulate a bass using a guitar + octave pedal look at something other than a POG variation (I use a whammy for bass lines) as the POG has that organ-y feel to them no matter the setting.

Well, in reality, an octave fuzz is a totally different kind of effect than a digital octaver. An octave fuzz is usually more or less a ring modulator where the two carrier signals are the same. What happens (if you know about ring modulators) is that the frequencies of the two carriers both add and subtract from one another so, if they're the same frequency you get double the frequency and 0.

A POG is based on something entirely different. It's more like a granular synthezier, I think. Basically the two effects are not going to sound very alike.

octave down yes.

octave up, absolutely not. it is nowhere near as satisfying as a proper octave up fuzz like an FY6
