Please submit your feedback to the feedback forum and not here...

[ Edited ]

Hey everyone - I've been asked to move all threads with complaints and suggestions about the new site to the Feedback forum.

Please make any further complaints, comments about the new site, bug reports, feature requests, etc. etc. over there. If you make them here, I'm just going to have to move them, so please save me the trouble, okay? :smileywink:

Thanks - here's the link: http://www.harmonycentral.com/t5/Feedback/bd-p/Launch_Feedback

They actually listen to some complaints over there. I complained about tags being removed (especially harmless tags like husker du) and they reinstated a few.

They still haven't fixed whatever problem is preventing me from posting  my favorite peacock gif though.

Yeah, I'm not overly wild about the way stickies (they call it "floating" instead of sticking) work here - it is potentially a bit confusing. The floating basically seems to act like a marker and second point of entry for the actual thread, which moves up or down the main listing, depending on last activity. The good news is that you can enter the thread through the link in the sticky, and through the listing in the main thread list too. Unfortunately, if the main listing is still on the first page, there will be two links to that same thread visible, which is a bit inefficient in terms of thread listings / space. It's certainly not a huge deal, but it would be nice if it only listed once.

I think I'm going to go over to the Feedback forum and suggest that as a change. Not sure if they can do it or not or if that's just the way Lithium handles their stickies - either way, it's not a huge deal to me, but I would prefer the other way since it's less cluttered.

Re: Please submit your feedback to the feedback forum and not here...

pleeeze folks if you want stuff fixed or changed, add your voice. I've been entering a bunch of things, to make sure there's a separate thread for each item I find. This way, things will not be lost (many times, a paragraph of good ideas will get distilled down to just one item b y the time it gets all the way back to the developers).

Lou'sPeed has been great at giving folks pointers (I just nominated him to write the next FAQ).

I'm not sure how much longer I can look at the overall visual format, but i'll give it my best Sun/Mon. After that I'm back to real-work and can't be of any help for 5 days.

So please get in there and enter a thread for any issue you've seen. If you see a thread that covers your topic, just jump in and add your +1 ....seeing how many folks are interested in getting items corrected will help them prioritize stuff.

...wow Phil, I sure do wish there was a bug-reporting system like I used to have bitd when I did this stuff for a living... oh well.

Supposedly someone at GC is compiling and prioritizing things based off what they see posted in the Feedback forum. It's not visible to the public, but they have a spreadsheet that is going to the Lithium folks, HC Admins, etc. with the list of issues to be addressed, although it hasn't been updated for a couple of days. They're probably off for the weekend. Must be nice. :smileywink:

Thank you sir! It's definitely going to need some refinement, but we knew that going in. While we really wanted it to be perfect, or as close to it as we could get at launch, we felt it was better to get here early and then polish (even though we knew we'd catch hell over the incomplete design and setup) rather than make people continue to have to suffer through the timeouts, page hangs and database errors that had made the old site all but unusable.

Please do keep that feedback coming folks - it's important, and it will make a difference! :smileyhappy:

Ah; fixed it for me.  Got Google Chrome, installed the Stylebot extension, and did the following for this site:

div.hc-header-ad {

display: none;
}

div.lia-content {
width: 96%;
}

Re: Please submit your feedback to the feedback forum and not here...

1) the thread titles on the main page can't be 3 lines long. please. just let them stretch out longer and fit into one.

2) no need for HUGE thread titles on every post in the thread. just take them out completely, we know what thread we are in

3) each page in a thread needs to contain more than like 7-8 posts. at least 10, or whatever the old forum was

4) what is this, a forum for ants?

5) PLEASE remove the bald 'rockstars from the sidebars.

6) make avatars bigger

7) make the new message (PM) notification bigger/more noticeable

8) if possible add simple htmls **bleep**

9) get RID of the **bleep** bleeps! **bleep**!

10) bring back old smileys like :thu: :cool: :smileytongue:hil: :vuvu: :eek: ...and so on

other than that great work everyone.

You can change this in "My Settings"  I changed mine to 20 (I think that's what the default for the old forum was).  But yeah, they should make 20 the default number.

Great list, but unless you post it in the Feedback forum (link's in the OP of this thread), the people who most need to see it will probably never know you said anything...

The bald rockstars in the sidebar are me... :smileywink: :smileytongue: :smileyvery-happy:

I've personally requested / suggested that the thread title field be lengthened. Make the type font for the replies, new author, kudos latest, and post smaller so that there's more room for it, but I absolutely agree - it needs to be wider, and to not cut off thread titles of average and reasonable length.

I mentioned that the avatars were way too small very early in the development process, but apparently someone thought they knew better than me about what you guys would dig. Let them know you want that via the Feedback forum if it's important to you.

The bleeps were supposed to be fucking shut off already, and I don't know why the bloody hell they weren't. :mad: :smileywink: (It's good to be the king. :smileywink: :smileyvery-happy: ) However, there will be a very strict no cursing in thread titles rule in place, as we've always had, and probably some limits on what we can have in sigs too, but the filter is supposed to be shut down. Come on - if your name is Richard and you're not a mod, and you want to use a common nickname for your name (Dick), you can't do it without getting bleeped. As I've already said, that's just ridiculous.

The last item on your list is something I've looked into. The phil stuff was done by friends of mine, and I have permission to use those, but everything else we had was vB, and all of those are under copyright. I looked into licensing them, but vBulletin only allows their use on vB boards, and refuses to license them. We supposedly do have someone working on alternatives, and I'm looking into whether or not there are other packages that could be licensed, and whether or not Lithium could substitute or add them if indeed we are able to find something that everyone likes - and yes, if it's up to me, we'll be asking you guys what you think and which ones you prefer before making a final decision.

J a c k a $ $ = bleep

J a c k a z z = bleep

....shoulda gone with Jackadze, I guess.

EDIT....ah he...double hockeysticks, they even bleep "a<space>s<space>s"

I have not messed with any colors or fonts, but man are the margins fixed on my personal browser, and there's no "Top Tags" box taking up the right margin of the message index either.  :smileytongue:  I don't mean to step on anybody at GC's big plans to make money on ads from this forum or anything, but we could be looking at a trend here.  Chrome browser->Stylebot extension...

I made a post the other night with several swear words to test whether or not the smut filter had been turned off. Of course, as we all know now, it wasn't yet, but because I'm an admin, apparently it thinks I can say whatever I want, and nothing was bleeped. It was probably the most popular post I've made since the switchover. :smileyvery-happy: And while I rarely curse here, "doesn't do doesn't mean doesn't know how." :smileywink:

There are definitely ways around the filter Doc, which is part of what makes the whole idea so silly, but don't bother yourself with it. Sure, we want to keep the site PG-13, but if you're under 13, you're not supposed to be here anyway, and anything really egregious, we're going to slam down hard on it. Oops, I said "hard on" - those words might trigger the smut filter...
