New Moog synth: the Sub Phatty

Latest Member of Phatty Family is the Grittiest Moog Synth Ever

Moog Music is proud to introduce the Sub Phatty analog synthesizer, a 25 full-size key, 31 knob production instrument that melds the soul and functionality of vintage analog synthesizers with new and unique sound design tools. Building on the tradition of Moog’s highly successful Phatty family, the Sub Phatty grinds and screams with a uniquely aggressive voice — making it the new standard for synth bass, analog percussion, and a wide range of sound design applications.

I really wanted a Lil Phatty, but now I think the Sub Phatty might be the way to go.

It's working on everything except the new Moog but the shop owner said on KVR this code would work for the Sub Phatty as well. I'd shoot him an email.

Re: New Moog synth: the Sub Phatty

I was really excited about this until I found out that there are no CV outs on it. Too bad. If that ends up being available as an aftermarktet mod like they do on the Little Phatty, I'll definitely pick one up.

The Korg MS-20 reissue looks pretty great, though.

Haven't heard about the MS-20 reissue. It's on the German Korg site!

Re: New Moog synth: the Sub Phatty

Wait - are those 3.5mm (1/8") jacks on the Korg?

Looks like mini-keys too. Both of which are differences compared to the original MS-20.

I'll keep my full size MS-20, but that's cool that Korg is sorta reissuing it.

Re: New Moog synth: the Sub Phatty

Can someone explain to me why this would be a better buy than the regular Phatty, price aside?

At least: more knobs = more control

Don't know about the sounds/specs...

Re: New Moog synth: the Sub Phatty

Phil, the MS20 reissue is confirmed to have 1/8 jacks and mini keys. Do not want.

As someone who owns a little phatty - I do love the sound of it but I've always wished it was a knob for everything rather than four assignable knobs so the sub phatty actually appeals to me especially because something a little bit smaller is always helpful to me - it's a mono synth I've got octave buttons - I'm not fussed about more than a 2 octave keyboard.
I think I'm considering the mini brute over the sub phatty though due to the price and I prefer the layout and look of it.

Re: New Moog synth: the Sub Phatty

I'm interested in the mini brute due to the Steiner-Parker filter section. It's looked cool in videos, but I've yet to see one in meatspace.

That's hilarious! Let's see... Korg was too cheap to do a real MS20 reissue so they took the Monotron (1V/Oct VCO + MS20 VCF) and shoved it in the MS-20 Legacy Controller case.

Re: New Moog synth: the Sub Phatty

I'm pretty stoked about the 1/8" jacks as I will be able to interface it with my Eurorack modular. It's also less than $1,000. The info I read stated that it's largely the same synth. The filter is the original MS-20 filter that they altered a few years after the release.
I'm thinking I'm going to get a MiniBrute, too. I was excited about the Sub Phatty but my aforementioned lack of CV outs kind of killed it for me. It's nice that they finally included a noise source on it, though. That's always really bummed me out about my Little Phatty. Well, that and the lack of knobs.
