I'm finally changing my 2006 iMac. Since, I upgraded to Snow Leopard. My Photoshop CS2
won't even open anymore. So, I think it's finally time to get a new computer. I need help to choose!
I know that the new iMac doesn't even have a cd slot, which is a pain. It's a turn off for me. If I can still find the last iMac version would that be a better option? I need your opinions please!

No. Get the newest and most powerful iMac you can afford.
Generally this is quite solid advice IMO. Put your money into the fastest CPU you can afford. Get the ram (as much as it will hold) from a third party vendor and install it yourself - it's much cheaper that way. Screen size is also important to some people, but even the "small" iMac has a decent sized screen.

External USB dvd drives are like 30 bucks on average, so if you still have the need you can get one of those. Looks like the new imacs have 4 usb ports, so you should have a slot for one.

As far as I'm aware the larger iMac has a door/cover you can remove to change ram, but the smaller one doesn't. To get into it you have to remove the screen which is a pain.
And on the disc drive front, you can get a cheap external drive and just keep it in a drawer for the few times you'll need it (do you really use the disc drive that much?) or, as my dad did when he recently got a Macbook Air, use another computer to copy the disc image from the CD or DVD to a USB stick and use that to install programs. He did that with Photoshop and Office, everything else he could just re-download.

There's also the CD sharing feature where you can use the CD drive from another computer and access it with the non-drive-equipped mac. I haven't used this, but I haven't read about major complaints from this method (maybe some authorization problems - which may necessitate the method above).

I went to one local Apple Store last night and they said they are sold out!
Need to do some Mac hunting tonight.
About Photoshop etc.. anyone using CS6 or older on your iMac? I have CS2 on my old Mac right now that kept on quitting everytime I use it! Hence, `new iMac purchasing.. ![]()

Never had any probs with it.
Since I updated to Snow Leopard my Photoshop CS2 kept on quitting. Illustrator is still working though..maybe there's something I can do?
