Effects - Pedals, Multi-Effects, and Floor Boxes

So last week, I got a new PRS SE 245, really good deal on it to, about $450 new. It was a 2012 leftover stock, and personally I like the color on it better than what they have now, it's called Tortoise Shell.

 
Anyway, this thing just is incredibly nice. It looks nice, feels so good, the tone is quite good even with stock pickups. It comes with .9s on it, and I may just keep them this way, as I seem to be able to play faster, and longer.  I also love how thick this guitar is, like a Les Paul. I had an older Tremonti Singlecut before, and that one seemed a bit toy like. Not the 245. It's a beast.  In fact I like it so much, I want another PRS. Might sell both my Epi Tribute which I have previously loved up until now, and my Gibson SG. Both fine guitars, but the PRS just plays better and sounds as good. I might get the SE Custom 24 which also now has the beveled top which is quite sexy, and split coils.

I know PRS ain't as popular has, for rich dudes, and all that. But that's bullshit. For an under $500 guitar, it will rival just about anything. Wish I could afford the Maryland versions, maybe some day. But this is a nice git as is, and maybe I'll modify the pickups, dunno yet. Not my pic, from ebay, but this is the one. Oh, also got a new Fender Humboldt Blues Jr. and that is kick ass as well. Photos of both soon.

Maybe, they have a lot of metal type players too, but it's really a wide range of artists it seems like. Just not guys/gals that seem to be popular here. So I guess that's the dislike. Too bad, as they really are good guitars. And there's a pretty diverse range of instruments now too, just not the same mold as Gibson and Fender, but I think that's a good thing.

It's am image thing. Kinda like the guy who drives an oldschool HumVee.

Before the Pacific Rim models, there was a real bit of snob appeal to them. Now, the kids wanking at GC can get them for...well....under 5 hundy. Their luster and gloss will die down over time, and become just another Suhr.

That's a pretty guitar. I'm not usually a flamed maple fan, but that is subtle enough to be pretty. Glad you like it, and I wish I had enough cash around to make an offer on your SG.

Mmm, sorry I don't think so. They have a huge following, only getting bigger. And Gibon of course has their fanbois too, but ever notice that even the fans of Gibson, are always complaining about quality control, or some big issue that affects tone or playability, or the price. You never hear that about PRS guitars at either the USA or SE level, they are just non factors. And the SE line has really stepped up their quality too, in terms of features and tone (build quality was always quite good). I like Epiphone and Gibson still, but PRS seems to have elevated their status over these brands now. May not be as popular (yet), but they're continually building the brand up over time, and sustaining their growth. I think that's the key. Much like Taylor acoustics (and their electrics), build really high quality guitars consistently, and listen to your customers and growth will follow. I would say that Fender has been pretty good about this too in the last few years. You don't hear about QC much at all.

Thanks man. Yes the flame is definitely there, but subtle at the same time. I don't dig a lot of the quilted tops that PRS fans gush over, just too over the top for me, but I like a nice flame, whether it's PRS or Gibson. 

What's a fair price for an SG Special (gloss, not the faded), 2004 model, stock, pretty good condition. I paid $800 for it last year, probably a bit on the pricey side now. I'm thinking $650.

I used to think that too, based on the two older SE models I have. I can't comment on the USA models, but newer ones like the 408 and the Studio seem to have a lot of personality from what I've seen/heard. But the 245 at this price point, has a lot of character. The pickups are much improved too.  All I know is this, I play it a while, love the feel and tone, and then switch to the LP and SG and I kinda want to pick the PRS right back up, just feels good in my hands, and easier to play. Which I've heard people say before, but always seems like a nonsensical thing to say, but now I get it. Also, the wide fat neck as it is called, is not really that fat at all, I find it very comfortable to play. I was worried about that. My tele has a fatter neck, and although I love it, it's not as fluid to play. But it's really hard to compare the two, and I won't.
