There's a suprising number of otherwise normal people who claim to see ghosts all the time. Like in The Sixth Sense.
I've actually seen what most people would call ghosts on a few occassions, but as an open-minded sceptic, I have to concede that my eyes and/or mind might have been playing tricks on me, or there might be some other rational explanation. That's why I don't deny the claims of sightings/experiences in other posts here, but I don't necessarily think that what they saw were ghosts.
Yea I tend to believe them insofar as I don't think they are lying, but I also doubt that the only explaination is something supernatural.
That's how I look at it, too. Someone experiences something they can't explain (whether or not it actually has an explanation) and think it's a ghost because that's a thing in our culture. The stories they tell always match ghost conventions for this culture, too. Because memories are incredibly inaccurate and supbject to suggestion, the more time goes on, the more they believe. It's the kind of thing that happens with really every paranaromal thing and people that witness it.

Yeah. Saw something that looked suspiciously like one about 30 years ago. I was with a friend who saw the same thing, and both of us were sober, so I tend to believe it wasn't just a brainfart. Freaked the hell out of both of us, and we basically did the scooby doo screech and scramble away thing.

perhaps that's what everyone is seeing, these ghostghosts you speak of.

Goodhonk, if someone believe that faries live in the bottom of their well, how would you describe that behavior and belief? The person either has a mental illness, is ignorant, or was indoctrinated into a belief system that included faries, regardless of the lack of evidence of their existence. Therefor, the are either crazy, dumb, or brain-washed. I don't believe growing up means accepting the beliefs of people who deny reality, growing up means accepting reality and standing for truth. If we are to discuss these things honestly and with intent of educating each other, I will use kinder terms, but this is a music forumn on the internet, and so I cut to the chase.
Urinate Forever, the gods that you believe in have done a terrible job at protecting anybody, from their own stupidity or the stupidity of others. To quote Sam Harris on god's ability to protect the innocent, let alone the vocal anti-theist, “Either God can do nothing to stop catastrophes like this, or he doesn’t care to, or he doesn’t exist. God is either impotent, evil, or imaginary. Take your pick, and choose wisely."

Not so, I argue that no supernatural creatures exist, faries, ghosts, big foot, gods, they are all the same..

yes, but you dismiss everyone's account, many eye witness accounts, and equate it with someone no one has seen, to prove your point.
i like you boytbc, and i dont' think you are crazy or foolish or brainwashed for your beliefs. maybe a lot close minded is all.

I like you too Honk, we just disagree on some things. As an atheist, vegetarian, liberal from a small Kansas town, I'm used to liking people I disagree with though.
Anyway, back to the point, first, eyewitnesses are the worst witnesses. Second, the brain has a well known trait to see faces (or other significant input from our other senses) where there isn't one, it is known as paridolia. There is an evolutionary theory for this, those that didn't react to the sounds in the savana, didn't become your ancestors. Third, I'm going with James Randi on this one, evidence is what speaks, and I don't see any evidence for ghosts, also Randi comments on where are the animal ghosts? Finally, I get a kick out of being called closed-minded, the reason I find it funny is because I'll be the first one to change my mind once quality evidence is presented to support an opinion I disagree with, but a few people who see bunnies in clouds and faces in drapes isn't quality evidence. "Be open-minded, but not so open-minded that your brains fall out.", Stephen A. Kallis, Jr.

I'm sorta in the Mr. and Mrs. PacMan school of thought on this subject:
Stay away from ghosts if they are red, orange, pink, or sonic blue. However, If they are dark blue/purple they are delicious. (Just don't eat the eyes.)
