Looking for tutorial setting up ekit with SD 2.0

I am scouring the interwebs looking for a good tutorial on setting up a DM10 brain with SD 2.0... I have it connected, have changed a few midi notes, but it's still not right. Need a good tutorial to do it right.

Re: Looking for tutorial setting up ekit with SD 2.0

What do you mean it's not right?

Unfortunately I use BFD2 so I might not be able to help but I think you need to be a little more clear about your problem.

So when you say you have it connected you mean you know your kit and superior are "talking" to each other?

Are you using superior in standalone mode or in a DAW?

Are you triggering sounds you can hear?

I guess what I'm asking is if this is a really basic issue of simply getting sounds or a tweaking issue to get playability OF the sounds to be as good as they can be?

It's talking. But not right.
The hat, is either open, or open.. I have foot chick, and next hit is open. It's also just not the right velocity or something. It's just not right, I need a tutorial. Maybe I'll do a video to explain it's hard to explain in text.

Re: Looking for tutorial setting up ekit with SD 2.0

Ahh...Yeah I know what you mean but not being familiar with Superior I have no idea how their set up works.

With BFD for the hats what you do is, step on the pedal and that will light up a key in the mapping part. You then drag and drop the HH's into that slot, and a menu will pop up with the different articulations. Select "pedal" and that gives me the chick. Then you hit the edge of the hats which lights up a different key in the mapping...drag and drop and select "variable shank". Hit the top of the HH which lights up another key, drag and drop and select variable tip. That's it.

But there are other articulations as well. "open" "3/4 open" "1/2 open" "1/4 open" and "closed". When using an ekit you don't select any of those. Those are more for people programing beats, or if you wanted only one sound on a trigger without a pedal.

Perhaps yours has something similar? You would want to look for variable settings for the hats.

As to the velocity, I'm sure there are settings which control all that. Both in your module and in the software. Sometimes you have to play around with both to get a set up that feels natural.

I recommend keeping a linear velocity setting and if superior has any type of "humanizing" or "velocity randomization" type things (that's what BFD calls them), turn them off. Again those are more for programmers.

Don't worry though..you'll get it set up.

Hope that helps. But probably not!...lol.

Re: Looking for tutorial setting up ekit with SD 2.0

I had issues with Hi-Hat as well with my Roland TD30. This might help you: http://www.dmdrummer.com/index.php?topic=1160.0

It's a bit funky as MIDI controller (CC4) messages come into play. It will take time, but you will get there

EDIT:

Here's few links that had helped me:

I will try and dig out some more information.

Good luck.

Re: Looking for tutorial setting up ekit with SD 2.0

Cool.  Sounds pretty nice.  Looks like you put a lot of work into this video syncing audio and video.  Sounded nice too.   Which SDX library did you use? I dont like the default snare of the NY - Allaire and Avatar, but really liked how the toms sounded.   Great playing too.    I will try and make a demo video with Evil Drums SDX, but I can't play.  You have good drumming skillz.   I am trying to convince a drummer friend of my to do a video, but he is a bit freaking out..lol.   Hopefully I should have something within the new few weeks with the ED SDX library.

Cheers.
