I always thought those were sneeze guards. You know, like they put over salad bars, only for drummers.

I remember years ago seeing a drummer on tour behind glass (can't even remember who with ... think it was Mother's Finest) and he had a sign on the front that said: "Don't Feed The Animal". I thought it was hilarious and appropriate! Always stuck with me all these 35 years later!
