Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

I have been doing nothing musical at all for a while, now. It's been all photography, and recently I got involved with a non-profit that refurbishes computers and other electronic equipment, to give to low-income folks, fire victims, and victims of other crappy circumstances. The photography has been mostly models, such as this one....

And there's a couple others.
The photo work started to pick up, and hit a lull at the holidays, but seems poised to ramp up again.

Not sure what role, if any, music will have in my life, anymore. I've really lost my interest and drive in it. I'd like to think it's temporary, but evidence isn't strong on that.
I've upped my standards; now, up yours.

Thank you. But apparently, not good enough to be viewed on the forum by default, rather by link only.

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

I've been recording a CD with an acoustic band and today we've finished the mix and mastering. No compression used, no limiting, full dynamics. The band will put this on the cover, like: 'no compression, no loudness, full dynamics'.

And Booshy was at my place yesterday.

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

It is exciting! Some info would be awesome.

JOSHUA TREE:
The weather report said it was cold and rainy. Nonetheless, we intrepid explorers went to the high desert, staying near the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park in a little cottage with a jacuzzi. If it's gonna be cold, why soak in a nice hot jacuzzi?

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

I have recorded, mixed and mastered a CD by two guys which are usually known as talented blues players, a fingerpicker and an harmonica player, but this time they used their technique to explore their roots which are Mediterranean. Both of them are from Palermo, Sicily, although the guitarist lives in Rome, near where i live. While we were relaxing a bit, in the recording days, I started a duet with the guitar player, using my fretless Godin guitar, asking him to play a chord sequence for a music I had composed but never recorded. As I'm from Naples, pretty Mediterranean place too, this music had some typical elements of my tradition, like an augmented forth which was something a bit different from their stuff but intriguing to their ears. So, this composition found it's way into the CD, where I used the fretless, and I also played this song in the showcase presentation in Palermo, using a slide guitar, but with a similar feel. Here is a video for that part of the show:

Lantern Festival, Los Angeles
Check out the extremely colorful and vibrant Lantern Festival in downtown Los Angeles, put on by the Chinese American Museum. The shadow puppet theatre was especially beautiful. I hope you dig it.

I swear this is not an HDR shot. The colors are intense because of the clothing and the lighting, and I actually *desaturated* the reds in this shot slightly.

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

I attended the Tibetan Uprising Day protest on March 10, 2011. These are photos from there:

http://www.elevenshadows.com/travels...t2011-march10/

Tibetan Uprising Day commemorates the 1959 Tibetan uprising against the presence of the People's Republic of China in Tibet. The failure of the armed rebellion ultimately resulted in a violent crackdown on Tibetan independence movements, and the flight of the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso into exile.

Craig, I hope this is okay. It's probably not exactly what you're looking for, it's out of the normal way of doing things. I'll delete it, if it's not the kind of thing you want here.

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

Craig, thanks for the opportunity!
I've only posted here a few times, but quite often over at Guitar/Lesson Loft.

I released this CD a few months ago and I've done a terrible job promoting it so far. I hope to change that. I can tell you that a lot of love and sweat went in to this. A lot of people went way out of their way to help me get this done.

Even though this is a link to buy, the full versions of the tunes are all there for your perusal.

Worthy mention: mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering.
Feature tracks:
"Frankenstein" (remember that tune?)
"34.1" (full orchestra arrangement. No midi!)
"St Jon's Wart" (Duet with fingerstyle legend Guy Van Duser)

Enjoy and thanks for listening!

This is a collaboration by Blue2blue (music, video presentation) and me (photography).
This reminds me a bunch of an old friend/customer of mine. Are you guys familiar at all with Steve Tibbetts? Your material sounds like it could be similar to material off his second album "Yr" which he released in about 1980 or so or one in that time period. Good stuff. I've been able to find some of his playable (short term) "Yr" stuff here: http://www.allmusic.com/album/yr-r148891

Nicely done..... Here's my attempt at capturing "Frankenstein". The band in this is "The Escape Artist" and the recording was captured LIVE at The Riverside Cafe, here in Vero Beach. The band was a guitar player, bass, drummer and electric violin. This was live on Saturday night Feb 20, 2011.

Wow, that's a huge compliment for Blue2blue!!! Steve Tibbetts is a really talented guitar player. I've seen him perform once with Choying Drolma and have two of their albums that they recorded together. Great stuff.

I knew Steve MANY years ago and fixed him up with a lot of equipment that he used over the years. He's a good guy with, at the time, a great sense of humor. I very much enjoyed his company. I have a postcard here that he sent me from "Thailand". His statement on the postcard reads: "Ransome note --- I have the Otari with me". This was soon after I provided him with an 8 track Otari recorder and he took off. This was sometime in the '80's. Even in the Twin Cities, where he was from, he wasn't a common performer. I once saw him perform at the Walker Art Center opening for Robert Fripp. Fripp had broken his Revox tape machine and it was fixed at the shop where I worked.
