The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

I know that y'all are engaged in a variety of creative endeavors - music, videos, photography, etc. Some of these deserve greater notoriety than being stuck in the middle of a thread and sinking off the page a few days later, hence this thread - a place to showcase Cool Stuff you've done.

There are only three rules:

1. You can post here only if you have more than 100 posts for this site (not just SSS). This is to keep out the "looky at my band!!" people who post a video or whatever and never come back.
2. You are allowed only one post within a seven-day period. This is to make sure that everyone gets equal exposure, and also, to inspire people to show only their best work.
3. You can add as many attachments as you like to that post (currently 5 maximum with vBulletin), but be aware there are size limitations. You may need to, for example, re-render a video for lower bandwidth, or link to a post you made on YouTube or your own site.

I picture this thread as something people can look through from time to time and see/listen to Cool Stuff. Have fun!
There are now eight music videos posted on my YouTube channel, including a cover of "We Gotta Get Out of This Place," which joins "Little Pieces", "Black Market Daydreams," and "When the Grid Goes Down" (complete with disturbing video )

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

okay ,...

I got something utterly cool,...

Last wednesday night me and my band's guitarplayer were invited by Aloe Blacc "I need a dollar" to be at his Amsterdam - Paradiso(which is THE PopTemple overhere) show.

We had backstage passes and spend some time with him in his dressingroom.

Our guitarplayer Eelco Bisschop joined Aloe and the band on stage and did a few songs with them. Damn was he nervous,..he missed a few notes but I forgive him. Only our contry's biggest names play there and Huge foreign bands.

Here's a vid with them I shot,... My name was even mentioned by Aloe and that sounded a bit weird also in front of all those people,..

Enjoy,...

Not quite sure if this was the intention Craig so delete if you want.

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

This is my favourite vocal performance on a song that I sing, and this is the first time this song has ever been made public

It was written by a friend of mine called Wayne, and recorded by me and him on my Roland 8-track about 9 years ago

Wayne: Cheesy 80s drum-synth, guitar, keys

Me: Vocals, bass

Cool... nice to see what the Paradiso actually looks like... I may not have had both feet firmly in Holland the handful of times I've been there.

I'll pop this from my one man band, one blue nine:

The chorus seems a little weak... I think it needs more lasers.

Now for something slightly different.

Craig, I hope this is okay. It's probably not exactly what you're looking for, it's out of the normal way of doing things. I'll delete it, if it's not the kind of thing you want here.

While viewing some photos from an online friend from Sweden, I came across one that caught my imagination. I obtained permission to use the photo and wrote a poem/lyrics according to my interpretation. The photographer's name is Kjell Gunnarsson.

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

A couple of pix for your enjoyment.

When we have lightning storms here I am often found wandering around outside taking pictures of the lightning. The one attached was taken in 2002. While I have a couple of better pix, what makes this one unique is that it was shot with a Nikon Coolpix 990, an early 3 MP camera that got VERY noisy VERY fast at any kind of long exposure. This made lightning pix a real challenge since they generally require long exposures. This is a one second exposure. I framed a print and donated it to a local charity. They auctioned it off to a fellow who lives near the "touchdown" point for $400.
More lightning pix: http://www.pbase.com/rking401/lightning&page=all

The real challenge in capturing lightning is day time strikes. The picture below was taken at about 6:30PM in early August. Exposure is 1/80 sec.

Same location as the first shot taken in May, 2009. 4 second exposure.

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

I think the first thing I'll show off are the Native American style flutes I made.
I got into this hobby a few years ago, but unfortunately kind of let it drop. I'm going to have to get back into it again.

I made this stand, and all the flutes except the one with the eagle fetish:

I'm not much of a player, but here's a simple tune I put together playing my Em flute, along with 6 and 12 string guitars that I also assembled:

This cheered me up no end and put a big smile on my face.

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

Great stuff indeed!
I'll share 3 things in one link:
http://www.floresybasura.com/linksa.html

1. A young girl from Spain(?) reading one of my poems. I found her on YouTube reading some wonderful poetry and sent her one of mine, but I never expected her to read it live for her show.
2. Me playing The Loner, by Gary Moore, with some improvisation at the end (after 3:20)
3. MP3 of me singing a song by Argentinian composer Alejandro Lerner. It should become evident that I'm not a singer

I apologize in advance for my playing and singing. The best part of this page is the young lady from Spain

Re: The SSS "Show and Tell" Thread

I'm gonna use this Show And Tell space this week for something a little different. I'm gonna Show And Tell someone else: Buddy Chambers. He was a friend of mine, someone I worked with and hung out with out of work for sixteen years.

Before I knew him, in the '60s, he had a singing career with Empala Records. He also did many other things...he was a stunt man on a stunt ranch for Westerns in Southern California, worked on an oil rig in Texas, and was for many years a Special Education teacher.

He passed away a short while ago. But some of you, including Alfonzo and Lee, helped me de-crackle his music. He hadn't heard this music in over twenty years, so I surprised him during his retirement party. He was blown away, thinking he'd never hear it again!! We played it over and over by request. Most of the people at his retirement party didn't even know that he had made records! I spoke to him about putting his music on MySpace, and he was really excited about that.

Shortly after retirement, about a week and a half ago, Bud unfortunately passed away. But I think his music lives on. Please feel free to friend Buddy Chambers on MySpace and share his music with your friends. Thank you very much.
