The thing that bugs me the most:
Truncated thread titles. Makes it impossible to know what many threads are about before opening them... this makes me not want to use the forum at all. And it seems totally stupid because of how much white space goes wasted in the thread listing pages.
And, I can't find the feedback forum any more. Did they give up?

The thread title issue is one of the most pressing -- and perplexing.
It is one of the surprisingly large number of issues here that have had me scratching my head over Lithium's forum system. I get it that Lithium was designed as a customer support forum -- but so many of the perplexing, missing, misapplied, or just plain misguided features in Lithium are features that are just as important to customer service as they are to a general discussion forum -- sometimes more so.
FWIW, you can still find the Feedback link in the footer of most (or all) of the forum pages under the Help Desk column header.

I really miss the gear reviews. Are they totally gone or do I just not know where to look?
The most recent date I've heard is around March 15th.

In recent news, it's rumored that HC has redesigned the wheel. It's now square. Somebody at HC really doesn't like forums. Or they would quit trying to nuke them. Why HC insists on continuing this destroy the community thing, I can't begin to understand. ![]()
I use to bitch, but it's obviously fultile. I love Craig and everybody, but I can't get my head around HC spending all this time wrecking what was a thriving community with these bogus software platforms they keep getting. It's like buying a hammer when you have to drive some screws. ![]()

stranger, communities find it hard to thrive when no one can get into the community to post or comment.
I've been far from kvetch-free in this transition -- but I'm perplexed by how many people seem to choose to forget that HC performance had been seriously degrading for months prior to the switch and that the last few weeks before moving to Lithium, it was often all but impossible to even make a simple post.
We're now kvetching (and, believe me, I've kvetched) about a system that actually works -- as in allows one to post and read others' posts -- but doesn't necessarily work the way folks are accustomed -- and that's fine, we would like to see some continued improvements and extra features -- but I would remind folks that a system that actually works is better from a common sense, level-headed, practical point of view than a system that doesn't.

As has already been mentioned, the Feedback forum is still there.
As far as thread titles, I was asked about that a couple of days ago, and I said I was in favor of making them longer. I'm not sure if my advice will be heeded or not, and if so, when that will happen, but I was asked, so apparently someone is considering changing that.

Philter,
I'll still make the best of whatever, but this whole "support" angle they keep following baffles me. I'll admit I hadn't been around much to see the performance issues. But I still say they're trying to drive a screw with a hammer. ![]()
Good to see you and Phil, though. ![]()

But of course, that's always preferable to getting screwed by a hammer. Or for that matter, getting screwed by MC Hammer.

Thank Phil, I did post about it on that forum (a couple times I think) but it feels a bit like an echo chamber in there. Glad to know they are still thinking about improvements.

I just had a sidebar discussion with meowmi (who is guiding the changeover fixes) and it seems clear to me she is very definitely keeping an eye on the Feedback forum -- despite a tendency of some folks to keep complaining about the same things over and over even after the situation/status of the desired 'fixes' is explained repeatedly. (The echo chamber effect. I'll admit, I've hit on the same complaint a few times myself. But we all know what an obsessive SOB I am, so, you know. Now meowmi does, too.

It's absolutely impossible to log in from a Droid phone - the site always returns an error page.

I`m still having difficulty including links in my posts. Amazing how something so simple on the old site could be made so difficult now...

Well... I've got to say, the forum software for the iPhone is very good. That are some wants I have, for sure, but it is direct and easy to navigate. Lots missing but... it works well. On a PC/Mac, it is slightly crippled in lots of respects but...
...over at the Songwriting Workshop, where I spend most of my time, it is working, it is keeping a close community together, it is doing what it needs to do. So, by and large, I'm happy. What's missing?
Multiple quotes.
That is such an important feature for certain types of communication. Like WIPs (works in progress) on the Songwriting forum. When you post an idea for a song and you have several reactions, input, guidance etc. from multiple friends, their ideas overlapping to a certain extent. All of us over there have gotten used to being able to muti-quote to respond with some overlap and nuance.
Bring back multi-quotes!

1. Type a word or phrase that you want to serve as a link. For example, you could type the phrase 'long exposure photography'. Then highlight it.
2. Hit the "link" icon as usual, which will produce a dialogue box.
3. Type or paste the website address in the field that says "Link URL" and hit "insert".
Voila.

Sometimes it works, sometimes.... not.
