In the market for a hot ute?
Gives me half a mongrel looking at it.

I kept looking at it going 'Ute?" Until I watched the video...
I wish US carmakers would do this...aside from the 'retro-y' overwrought Chevy SSR (discontinued in 2006) there is nothing like that produced here....

The 2013 Holden Commodore is about to be available in the US badged as a Chev SS.
I believe it will be slotted in between the Corvette and the Camaro.
You may recall the Pontiac G8 which was a 2 door Commodore rebadged. It was killed off during the GFC.
As for the ute, I seem to remember reading somewhere the GM would like to and may sell it in the States. So it might happen. Here is the HSV version.

Ford may have made the first pick-up truck, but it was on the Model-T Frame, called the Roadster Pickup from 1925 to 1927...and in the US the term 'ute' came from WWII Utility trucks, and was non-specific, referring to Studebaker, Dodge, GM, Kaiser/Willys and Ford trucks...'deuce and a half', Jimmy...

Yes I have seen some vehicles - trucks really - referred to as "utilities" dating from the '20s but Ford Oz coined "Coupe Utility" to emphasise the relative comfort of the passenger cabin. I'm sure there is more than a bit of marketing spin in their claims and many australians have a "we invented it" sense of ownership of the concept. Ten years earlier you could buy one of these :

That one doesn't look quite as luxurious. But you can tell it's really old because it has a "Look out for dinosaurs" sign on the side.

I thought that was a "I brake for brontosauri" bumper sticker?

That is a sound policy, I'd have to say. And the Latin plural, to boot.
