Not all hope, just most of it.

If you mean most others besides them, I'm inclined to agree with you.
However, I gotta start giving some new people a chance cause they may end up being halfway decent.

That is exactly what I meant.
I keep trying to be optimistic and listen to a lot of new "good" bands that I hear about. They might be new, they might be good at what they do, but to me it all sounds like the same shite. I've heard "that" album 9 times this month, I don't need to hear it again by another crappy-screamy-whiny band.
The whole emo/screamo/whinymo/crooked hair thing is just a time waster until a real band comes along to reinvent things again. Good or bad, society still needs a steady dose of new music all the time.
It happens every 10 years or so... Nirvana saved us from Slaughter and Trixter and the like who were the corporate time waster as the interest level in the fashion and style of the 80's hair bands started to wear thin. It happened in the late 70's when Punk saved us all from Disco, and it will happen again now, hopefully sooner than later.
Not dogging A7X at all though. In every scene, good or bad, there will always be stand outs that get lumped in with the crap. But they stick around long enough to surivive the scene and be respected in their own rights after.
In other words, Avenged Sevenfold could very well end up being the next Bon Jovi.

Well if this album is any indication, they should be there for the long haul.
What was interesting, I was reading their interview in GW mag last month, and they were saying how you hear the names like Shadows Fall, Mastodon, Killswitch Engage, etc.. thrown around a lot at being the pinnacle of this genre, yet A7X is the only band to have gone gold with City of Evil. Surprised me, actually.

I haven't looked it up, but I am pretty sure Killswitch went gold, I know End of Heartache was nominated for a Grammy (which they lost to Motorhead and shouldn't have IMO). And on their live DVD they talk about the boatloads of albums that it sold. Personally I don't lump A7X in with them or Shadows Fall, despite their heaviness, the vocals are too "soft" for lack of a better word.

So how's the new album compare to City of Evil? Been a fan for a few years now, really liked that one and Waking the Fallen... I meant to pick up the new one yesterday but was too busy. So you'd say the self-titled is worth it? What are the best songs on it?

I took a chance on them and really are into them, so maybe all hope isn't lost for the new rock scene.

Really? Avenged Sevenfold is one of the reasons I've lost hope for the new rock scene. They are also terrible in concert, btw. Maybe I just had a bad experience though, I hope yours is better.
I'll stick with my new Killswitch Engage and In Flames, A7F can breakup for all I care.

I haven't seen In Flames or Killswitch Engage live, though I'd love to, if that's what you meant. I was merely comparing studio releases.
Regardless, if you are into metal and haven't heard much of those two bands, I'd be happy to post a few tracks for you to checkout. Whether I like A7F or not is no reason not to checkout other good modern rockers just cause I like em

I've seen lots of clips and it's definitely on par or better than most stuff out there. I'm looking forward to seeing them next month.
From the K-SE and IF stuff I've seen, A7X is a good bit better. Guess we've had opposing experiences.

KSE is great live. Been impressed every (2) time, and am blown away by the energy they put out on the live DVD too. I highly recommend it.
