The background....
The person this article refers to is the band-leader of a hugely popular band that has made it through 25-30 players in the past 15 years. They not only play all the bigger clubs, they've captured the market with all the municipalities, churches that hold huge lawn fetes, and anyone doing major fundraisers. They command great money all while having no image whatsoever. I'm not a huge fan of dressing alike and shit, but this band's "look" is horrible. At any rate....read the article AND THE COMMENTS (they're the best part).
If everyone brings one comment to this thread- it should be a learning experience that could fill 20 pages. lol

I found their website just to see what all the hype was about. NO sound or video samples to be found. Had to search on the youtube. ![]()
This wasn't horrible. No Les Paul...

Alright, which one of you trolls started the cover band vs. originals band debate in there?
I think I'm going to post something over there about shorts and music stands.

The band was pretty good. They would be better if they wern't wearing birth control shorts though.

That was one seriously hilarious read Potts! I can only imagine the amount of inbreeding that goes on in a town that would entertain this as an issue at a town meeting!

The comments are the best part of the article. I'd imigine they're either from every musician in Buffalo or just the 25+ ex-bandmates.

So pretty much this guy got so mad his band didn't get the gig he went to a Lancaster Village Board meeting to cry about it. LOL I wish I lived in this town!
Just because you play a community event one year does not guarantee you playing it again... EVER!
(unless your contract says so)
I can actually see this happening in my area with a few egotistical musicians I know.
The band doesn't sound bad though. IMO

Potts, I SWEAR none of those comments are from me or my band! lol! In fact we're watching going "Whew, thank God that's not us they're bitching about!"

“We’re part of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame and we’ve done opening acts for Frankie Valli and Poison.”
Well holy shit that sold me!

HAHAH! When I read that I asked myself, "why the hell would anyone care about opening slot BS?"

I don't know that I've ever seen a news report that went into so much detail over the booking of a band before!
Interesting the comments about "if I knew we could hire them for $840.."

wonder if some local bar owners are going to be pissed that they have been paying his band more?

That's what one guy was saying: "I'll never hire them again after knowing I could have had them for less."
Whether the poster is for real or not, who knows...

Plus... the disparity of the two acts. Poison and Valli? That sort of says, "We are completely faceless and have no identify. And we're damn good at it!" He sounds like a real turd.

The key here is "past 15 years". Stay together long enough, work your ass off to build a reputation and connections in a market, and things like look and image matter less.
At the same time, if there is any truth to the comments in that link, it seems these guys have been riding on their reputation for a long time now and maybe have been doing a bit too long.
It seems there's a couple of these bands in every market---the "I can't believe these guys still get hired for everything" band.

Yep. There are a few in my area too. There is one that has been around for 20+ years, constant line-up changes and everything... Many msuicians groan when you hear their name but this band can back it ALL up. They are still VERY good at what they do, nice people and they have a really nice draw. Sometimes its just jealousy.
